Very good day for local hoops at Danville girls playday:

Vinemont, Fairview, Holly Pond & Hanceville go 2 & 0 on Friday:

GDW Analysis:
DANVILLE: Cullman County teams made up 40 percent of participation in the Danville girls basketball playday on Friday.
Vinemont, Fairview, Holly Pond and Hanceville were able to put together good performances, with each going 2 & 0 in playing games from the new gymnasium that is over a year old and the well kept Wayne Bowling Gym that opened around 1990.
Vinemont welcomed Emily Willoughby as the new leader of the Lady Eagles. Vinemont followed her trend of playing hard and playing well with a 35 to 32 victory over Westminster Huntsville and a 49 to 22 rout of Brewer by late morning.

Fairview is in its 2nd season with Chris Nichols running the Lady Eagles. Fairview wore down Brewer in the opener 44 to 19 and then ran away from Westminster 57 to 20.
Holly Pond got involved in a battle with Addison, winning it 52 to 26. The 2nd game for the Lady Broncos went to the wire with Holly Pond coming from behind to edge Elkmont 41 to 38.
Hanceville was the last team to step on to the floor from the local perspective. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Phillips 36 to 20 and in the mid afternoon, topped Elkmont 32 to 15.
The four locals showed their stuff in going a combined 8 & 0 in the 10 team division hosted by Danville, who is now up to Class 4A in the AHSAA.
Willoughby, an assistant with Vinemont in recent years, was promoted to the lead position last month after James Brown resigned.
Vinemont is an experienced ball club with three players having two seasons as regular starters. They are Reagan Robinson and Caroline Miller in the backcourt and Carly Stephens in the post.
Morgan Flanagan, Vayda Yarbrough and Addison Holcomb delivered last season coming off the bench with much more expected of them through Willoughby's inaugural season with the varsity.
Vinemont has earned back to back 17 win seasons and continue to make strides of winning against county opposition.
Their games with Hanceville and Holly Pond will serve as additional motivation for these three are in 3A, Area 13 play the next two years. That is the most of any from the county to be in the same area in several years.
Holly Pond provides valuable experience for coach Mary Hartline with Ava Thomas a key on the front line for the Lady Broncos. She shares the spotlight with returning experience in Madison Butts at PG and Maggie Nail as a shooter.
Looking to make contributions in a full time varsity role this new season with be Blakely Baggett and Millie McBee in the backcourt.
Hanceville is moving upward as well, thanks to the intensity they get on a regular basis by the sister combination of Aaliyah Twitty and her younger sister, Alex.
Both love to get into up tempo play and showed that with good quality while seen by GDW Friday against Phillips and Elkmont.
Coach Christina Watson has Mattie Keith and Kerrigon Moore with experience, plus a new perimeter shooter too.
Fairview has balance with its guards and added to the depth in getting Whitney Quick from Vinemont.
Quick is flexible between the point and shooting position, Darby Nichols is currently the ball handler for her dad's team, but shares backcourt duties with Davi Stidham, Peyton Defoor and Lexi Golden.
Fairview's concern is lack of frontline size with no one above 5'11."
The key for the Lady Aggies is to create tempo, play fundamental defense and show consistency on the offensive side.
Against Brewer Friday, the Lady Aggies had a good opening half of perimeter scoring that led them to a 27 to 16 halftime cushion.
Attacking the defense at various locations will be the determining factor for the Lady Aggies to offset size and physical play in the paint.
Each will go out next week, eager to continue to progress with at least two more weeks of playdays left on the schedule.
Hanceville and Vinemont will be in the Good Hope playday on Wednesday, Fairview and Holly Pond will be seeing battles Thursday at the Cullman playday.
Fairview will join Good Hope in representing the local system as participants in the AHSAA Scholastic Camp Friday from the Finley Center in Hoover.
Both will have a pair of assignments vs. good out of town opposition.
