PHIL CAMPBELL: Vinemont Eagles have found a pattern through the first 2 rounds of the AHSAA baseball playoffs.
The Eagles have played to a solid level in Game 3 encounters.
On Monday, the Eagles went back to Franklin County and romped over Phil Campbell 15 to 5, taking the series 2 games to 1.
This is the first time Vinemont has made a deep run into the baseball postseason.
Vinemont has 26 wins on the season, the most since they had the same number in the 2012 season when they were coached by Chad Shannon.
Hunter Cornelius is in command of Vinemont baseball as the Eagles have earned 44 victories out of 61 games in the past two seasons.
The Eagles have shown in Game 3 of the playoffs how explosive they can be.
In Game 3 wins against Randolph County and Phil Campbell, Vinemont has scored 34 runs and given up just 5.
Josh Rhodes was given the nod to start the finale and was effective in getting a complete game victory.
Now the Eagles encounter the Winfield Pirates for the quarterfinal round with the series to be at Mike Cupp Field on the Vinemont campus.
Game 1 and Game 2 is Friday at 4:30 & 7:00 p.m.
Game 3 if needed, is Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
Winfield swept Lauderdale County 5 to 2 and 15 to 5 in Round 2. The Pirates have the best record of all teams remaining in contention in Class 3A with 30 wins and 6 losses.
