GDW Analysis:
WEST POINT: Another task is waiting to be taken care of at West Point High School.
On July 11, the school learned that Don Farley stepped down from his role of athletic director, accepting an offer from Brewer High School to become the assistant principal and handle athletic situations too.
This is the 2nd thing the 5A school in Northwest Cullman County has gone through in regards of it being associated with Farley.
Farley retired from coaching the football team last November when the Warriors were eliminated from the AHSAA 5A playoffs. Farley has been in charge of athletics for four seasons with West Point showing consistency from winning county championships to making runs into postseason play in various AHSAA sports.
Gameday Weekly learned of this change from social media on July 11. The following day, GDW was on an assignment covering a volleyball playday hosted by West Point with the quest of getting additional information.
That did not transpire with principal Wes Black currently on vacation.
Black will have to report to the AHSAA athletic directors and principal conference next Friday during AHSAA all star sports week in Montgomery.
No timetable has been set on when the school will get its next AD.
Fall sports at West Point will begin on the weekend of August 22 with volleyball and football opening the new season.
Athletic directors are required by the AHSAA since the association created a coaches and athletic directors organization 16 years ago.
The role of an athletic director is to handle all aspects of athletics, from high schools to college.
The AD works closely with coaches to ensure smooth functioning of each sport the school has, from scheduling to budgeting.
This is the current list of ADs in schools covered by GDW:
