WEST POINT: Gameday Weekly toured the West Point youth basketball camp Thursday morning from Jim Boyd Gymnasium.
The two-day event consisted of team and individual drills, coordinated by West Point coach Mason Voce with girls coach John Welborn, assistant coaches and players from the Warriors and Lady Warriors for a three hour segment.
Forty-five youngsters from the 2nd grade to the 6th grade were well involved.
Drills that were presented to the participants included a UCLA drill, five ball drill, transition drill and understanding the basics of a 1-3-1 zone defense.
The purpose of this by Voce and the instructors is to improve the skills of each person and enjoy the opportunity of togetherness.
This week was the best opportunity for West Point to have the camp as the high school teams will enter its playday tour starting next week.
Voce and Welborn are looking forward to seeing how they will be for next season through the June series.
The two will focus on a series of events, with a highlight being involved in Good Hope playdays the second week of the upcoming month.
West Point Warriors will take to the Cullman Basketball Complex June 10 for matchups with Decatur Heritage and Lauderdale County.
The Lady Warriors are in the Good Hope playday on June 12 at Good Hope Gymnasium.
