Lady Lions sweep Calhoun on sophomore recognition day:

HANCEVILLE: Playing at Bobby McCracken Stadium is now over for Wallace State softball this season.
Another good year of winning has been compiled with the Lady Lions clinching the regular season title in the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC).
On Thursday, the Lady Lions swept Calhoun Community College 12 to 2 and 9 to 1 in run rule contests.
Wallace is 17 & 5 in conference play and will be the top seed when the tournament is held next weekend at Veterans Park in Alabaster.
The Lady Lions finish their home schedule with 11 wins in 14 decisions.
Wallace State went 9 & 3 vs. conference foes on the home diamond and have a four game winning streak by sweeping Northwest Shoals and Calhoun in a span of five days at McCracken Stadium.
The Lady Lions were behind in both games due to throwing errors that allowed Calhoun to score.
Lauren Stewart's squad shook off the mistakes early in both games, going on to clobber the Lady Warhawks as they amassed 21 runs on 22 hits in the twinbill.
A three run homer from Jayden Foster wrapped up the victory in the opener in the 6th.
A solo blast by LF Haley Hollyhand in the 2nd snapped a 1 to 1 score.
Bayleigh Rouse got a two run homer in the 4th and catcher Emily was three for three from the 9th spot, two singles, a double and an RBI.
Coach Stewart started Emily Simon in the circle, She replaced her with her twin sister, Katie, who worked two innings.
Sophomore Amelia Sherrill took over in the 5th and 6th, allowing a run on three hits.
It took 2 hours and 5 minutes to end the first game, a Wallace victory at 6:05 p.m.
Calhoun moved in front 1 to 0 in the first of game two. The Lady Lions eased into the lead on a 2 run double from Laura Leigh Wheeler in the 3rd.
They never trailed from there.
Seven runs were scored by the Lady Lions in the 4th on 7 hits.
Hall had a run scoring single, Foster a run scoring double, a two run triple by Wheeler, Rouse with an RBI single and a run scoring double from Taylor.
Lily Boswell replaced Payton Bailey in the 2nd and threw four scoreless innings. Calhoun had a runner to get into scoring position in the 5th, trying to extend the game trailing by 8 runs.
Boswell struck out Alina Otero to end the sweep at 8:03 p.m.
Wallace State has 30 wins on the season in 42 games.
The sophomores were honored in between the games as they have contributed 82 wins in the last 2 years and gone 27 & 3 at home.
  The sophomores are the Simon sisters, Caroline Cartron, Wheeler, McKinnon Howard, Hall, Tessa Word, Sherrill and Taylor. The manager is Daylin Phillips from Cullman.
