GDW Analysis:
COLD SPRINGS: June was a time for Casey Howell to relax before knowing the pace would go on the increase when July arrived.
The head coach for cross country at Cold Springs High School encounters the next two weeks in the case of activity for him to be on the move.
Howell has had his 2024 Eagles and Lady Eagles in preseason workouts recently at a camp in Rutledge, Georgia.
Once the Independence Day holiday weekend moves through, Howell and his runners will look to adjust to the humid time July presents and move forward with the regular season in AHSAA cross country to begin in the later part of August.
Howell also has the following to look forward to.
Howell was selected the coach for the North All Stars as they will run vs. the South during AHSAA All Star Sports Week July 16 at Gateway Park in Montgomery.
The leader of the Eagles will get the chance to coach good talent that is not a part of his roster regularly.
The North team will consist of Luke Alverson of James Clemens, Evan Christopher of Southside Gadsden, David Laird of Homewood, Henry Livingston of Northside, Cade Pagett of Lawrence County, River Richard of Pell City, Mitchell Schaff of Vestavia, John Shoemaker of Oak Mountain, Harris Strong of Altamont, Caleb Yoder of Sand Rock.
Howell will remain in Montgomery as he will be honored during the AHSAA championship banquet at the end of week for Cold Springs winning the 2A cross country, 2A indoor track and 2A outdoor state championships in the 2023/24 year.
After the tour into Montgomery, Howell will return home and will be a part of the Cullman County Board of Education fall sports media days on July 22.
The event will be inside the conference room of the CCBOE with Cold Springs to step into the spotlight that Monday at 12:00 p.m.
Cold Springs' cross country and track has maintained a high level of excellence since Howell came to the program over three years ago.
Winning four AHSAA championships in one calendar year is an outstanding accomplishment for how much effort is put into running in cross country, plus sprint and distance events in indoor and outdoor track.
