GDW Analysis, AHSAA Sub Regionals (G):
By fact, this has been one of the best seasons for local girls basketball in some time.
Five teams have claimed an area championship. Seven in total have reached the 2nd phase of the "Road to Birmingham" for the AHSAA playoffs, the sub regional round.
Gymnasiums at Cold Springs, Good Hope, Holly Pond, West Point and St. Bernard will be buzzing Friday evening.
Cullman and Vinemont will be on the road in the quest to move to the next round, the Northwest Regional next week from Wallace State Community College.
Friday schedule (All games 6:00 p.m.):
2A: Lexington (15 & 12) at Cold Springs (17 & 8)
3A: Colbert Co (12 & 8) at Holly Pond (19 & 8)
3A: Vinemont (22 & 6) at Lauderdale (26 & 1)
4A: Wilson (19 & 6) at Good Hope (23 & 5)
5A: Ardmore (12 & 14) at West Point (22 & 5)
6A: Cullman (14 & 15) at Chalkville (13 & 10)
1A: Lynn (11 & 10) at St. Bernard (13 & 5)
According to GDW, these are first time matchups for the locals in the playoffs.
Cold Springs, Holly Pond, Good Hope, West Point and St. Bernard won their area championship on Monday. That allows them to play the sub regional from their respective campus.

Cold Springs: Ella Dickerson, Kenady Graves, Hollyn Bruer.
Holly Pond: Ava Thomas, Millie McBee, Madison Butts.
Good Hope: Ava McSwain, Jolee McHan, Ella Gossett.
Vinemont: Reagan Robinson, Caroline Miller, Morgan Flanagan.
West Point: Laklin Shadix, Jaelyn Faulkner, Camryn Faulkner.
Cullman: Molly Wilson, Molly Dorough, Rachel Hoffman.
St. Bernard: Ella Davis, Caroline McBride, Rowan Hines.
Dickerson has played well in returning after suffering an ACL injury in the 2024 Cullman County tournament. Graves is coming off scoring 13 to lead them to a 56 to 21 rout of Falkville in the area final.
Thomas was chosen the MVP for Holly Pond in its upset of Vinemont in 3A, Area 11. Thomas dropped in 19 in the championship.
Miller had 22 for Vinemont in beating JB Pennington to reach the finals of 3A, Area 11.
McSwain was part of good scoring for Good Hope in the area win against Danville. The Bill Shelton winner from the county tournament had 15 on Monday night.
Camryn Faulkner guided West Point in a hard fought 5A, Area 15 final over Russellville with 16.
Wilson brought out a solid effort in the Cullman 61 to 53 semifinal victory in 6A, Area 13 against Jasper with 25 points.
Davis accounted for 25 points against Cullman Christian and 16 vs. Addison with St. Bernard winning an area championship for the first time in 20 years.

Cold Springs finished the regular season poll 2nd in 2A, Vinemont 7th & Holly Pond 8th in 3A, Good Hope 4th in 4A, West Point 5th in 5A.
This is the most girls teams ranked by the state sportswriters in a single season.
St. Bernard is unranked, but a hot ball club in winning 7 of their last 8 games, beating Area 14 rival Addison 3 times in this span.
Cold Springs, Good Hope and West Point won their sub regional game in 2024.
Vinemont has a school record 22 victories in the current season.
Cullman has reached the sub regional for the 2nd straight year under Jessica McBrayer. McBrayer is formerly the head coach of the Wallace State Lady Lions. McBrayer accumulated 141 victories in her 6 seasons with the Lady Lions around the top of the Alabama Community College Conference,
