Alabama women don't win, will not play in Birmingham this weekend:

Enough mistakes by Alabama to cost them a Sweet 16 contest:

GDW Analysis:
BIRMINGHAM: NCAA women's basketball is coming to Legacy Arena at the BJCC this weekend with the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 rounds.
Unfortunately, the Alabama women will not be among the participants.
Alabama put up a stout effort but could not keep Maryland from coming back and earning a 111 to 108 victory in double OT Monday.
History was in the making with Alabama on the verge of being the 4th team as a 5 seed to knock off a 4 seed on its home floor in the Round of 32.
Ole Miss did it to Baylor on Sunday as well as Tennessee winning at Ohio State and Kansas State upsetting Kentucky in Lexington.
A lot of positives can be shown by Alabama in this game.
A percentage of negatives too.
Alabama was killed by Maryland with the Terps having 22 offensive rebounds and 46 total.
The Tide lost 2 starters that were a huge part of their offense. Zaay Green fouled out after playing 24:00 and had 11 points. Alayiah Nye left the game with her 5th foul late in regulation.
Nye would account for 11 points.
Graduate senior Sarah Ashlee Barker carried the Tide on her shoulders.
She would play her last collegiate game in heroic fashion with a career best 45 points, 17 FGs and 8 rebounds.
However, Barker showed flaws in which she was 7 of 11 from the FT line and committed 11 turnovers.
Alabama built a 17 point lead in the 2nd half and went to the 4th period ahead 64 to 55.
They collapsed in the 4th, allowing Maryland 28 points and to tie the game in the final seconds with a FG from 3 point land.
Alabama was up against a tough situation with the loss of Green and Nye to fouls and then seeing center Essence Cody foul out in the 2nd OT, playing 41:00.
Barker bailed the Tide out when she made three in a row from the line with no time really left and the game entered a 2nd OT frame, tied at 96 to 96.
But Maryland would prevail and now they come to the BJCC to tangle with South Carolina in a regional semifinal Friday.
Game time is to be announced later.
Maryland is 25 & 7 with a good season for Alabama ending at 24 wins & 9 losses. The Tide has not been in the Round of 16 since the 1998 season.
Final look by GDW:
Alabama got caught of so much of Barker and lack of confidence from others in believing they could play to a high level Monday.
Karly Weathers, a very good prep player for Bama out of the state of Tennessee and seen by GDW in her prep career, was only 1 of 5 in threes and 9 points.
Alabama's foul trouble left the Tide shorthanded, and they would not be able to stop Maryland hardly in the final 20:00 of the game.
In that span, Maryland scored 56 points, Alabama had just 44.
It would be a "One shining moment" for Barker.
The daughter of legendary Alabama QB Jay Barker and step daughter of country music artist Sara Evans, gave those watching the game on TV or social media, what the heart of a champion is all about.
GDW will be at the event Friday with South Carolina vs. Maryland and the other clash to have Duke vs. the winner of North Carolina/West Virginia.
Saturday's schedule is to be Tennessee taking on Texas and Notre Dame to play TCU.
GDW encourages hoop fans locally to experience this moment of March Madness for the quality of teams, players and coaches coming to the Magic City for the final weekend of this month.
