August has arrived, football practice starts for AHSAA teams:

The 2024 season kicks off officially the weekend of August 22:

GDW Analysis:
All football teams in the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) are able to be on the practice field when Monday arrives.
The AHSAA gave schools last week to start practice, if they had not been involved in a spring jamboree.
Locally, that meant the Cold Springs Eagles, Cullman Bearcats, Fairview Aggies, Hanceville Bulldogs, Holly Pond Broncos and West Point Warriors were able to set up their schedule and begin the quest of preparing for the first week of games that will be the weekend of August 22.
On Monday, the Good Hope Raiders and Vinemont Eagles can see their moment, working out the first two days of this week in shorts and helmets, before going into pads and full gear by midweek.
The AHSAA permits teams to play a jamboree game if they choose to with those to be held the weekend of August 15.
Gameday Weekly is aware of teams around the coverage area, Arab has a jamboree on the 15th in Huntsville vs. Grissom High School.
For the 16th, Hanceville is to face West Point at West Point Stadium, Holly Pond has JB Pennington and West End coming to Thomas/Michelfelder Field.
The Meek Tigers will be playing at the Falkville Blue Devils the 3rd Friday of August while the Addison Bulldogs visit the Lynn Bears under the lights in preseason play.
Cullman Bearcats reportedly are not in a jamboree assignment.
When Thursday arrives, schools in the Cullman County system will be in class for the first time. That means football practices will be held in the late afternoon, or the early evening to offset warm weather conditions.
For the jamborees, Hanceville vs. West Point will present new head coaches for both schools.
Levi Estes has taken over Hanceville after the Bulldogs had three years with Ryan Brewer. Estes is new to the area for being a native of West Tennessee.
Kevin McCravy comes to West Point after Don Farley retired following 11 years in becoming the Warriors' winningest coach.
The jamboree will good in getting emotions under control when the two kick off the season with home games on the 23rd.
Hanceville welcomes Cold Springs to Ray Talley Stadium, West Point's new opponent for opening night will be the Haleyville Lions.
Will McDaniel is the other new head coach locally. McDaniel is at Holly Pond with the Broncos returning to Class 3A after a few years as a 2A school in the AHSAA.
Fairview's 18th season with George Redding at the helm has the Aggies hosting a jamboree August 23 vs. the Pisgah Eagles out of Jackson County.
Good Hope is going to Dekalb County that night in a jamboree rematch with the Fyffe Red Devils. The Raiders played Fyffe along with Vinemont in a spring encounter May 15 from James Shabel Stadium.
Vinemont's opener for the 23rd will be from Mark Smothers Stadium with Falkville making its short drive up Highway 31. This will be the 46th meeting between the two as Vinemont holds a 25 to 20 advantage in the all time series.
By September 6, all local teams will see their first regional assignment. Regional play will carry through the 20th, have an off week, resume on October 4 and close out by October 25.
The regular season officially concludes November 1 with the opening round of the AHSAA playoffs to be the weekend of November 7.
GDW and WKUL FM (92.1) is looking forward to a fine year of presenting the best from the gridiron for our readers and listeners.
