That's a winner follows the pattern of Wallace State hoops:

New coaches continue the winning formula at WSCC:

GDW Analysis:
HANCEVILLE: Wallace State Community College basketball can best be described by famous words from a legendary baseball broadcaster.
Jack Buck would say "That's a winner" regularly in his long status of doing St. Louis Cardinals games on KMOX Radio.
The Lady Lions and Lions have shown that for such a long time.
Winning has not changed after the school had to fill vacancies following last season when Allen Sharpe led both teams to berths into ACCC championship play.
Sharpe got a call to take his winning ways to the University of Alabama Huntsville. He has provided the Lady Chargers a fine season in 21 wins out of 26 games and 2nd in the Gulf South Conference of NCAA Division II.
Taking over the two teams are a pair of people that know the game like the back of their hand.
Joseph Simmons has stepped in following success coaching high school girls hoops in Tennessee.
The Lady Lions are 24 & 4 and 2nd in the ACCC after they rolled over Southern Union on homecoming 86 to 46
.
A victory by Simmons' Lady Lions Monday in their last game at Tom Drake Coliseum this season would equal the number of wins (25) the group endured in their lone season with Sharpe at the helm.
WSCC Lady Lions have been a winner with 190 in the last eight years, 6 by Jessica McBrayer, 1 from Sharpe and the current season with Simmons.
For the Lions, a former player was given a chance to come back and led the squad from the bench.
Faron Key, who is Hartselle High School's all time winningest coach with 174 in his career, has worked hard with the Lions the best in the conference in Division I at 22 & 5 and 9 & 3 in league games.
The Lions dropped Southern Union out of a first place tie Thursday from the Drake in a 92 to 79 triumph and celebrated homecoming in the process.
Both have shown superior play at home. The Lady Lions have 15 wins in 16 games, the Lions have won 14 and lost once.
Their combined total of 46 wins and 9 losses is well ahead of any other duo in the conference.
The hiring of Simmons and Key by President Dr. Vickie Karolewics with Athletic Director Paul Bailey has met the standards for who Wallace State has become through the years in this sport for both teams.
Both met the criteria that the school was seeking in order to stay around the top in a well recognized conference associated with the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

The last time both will play at Drake Coliseum is Monday vs. Coastal Alabama South.
The Lady Lions are looking to sew up 2nd in the conference to their arch rival Shelton. Key's Lions are trying to protect their slim lead against Southern Union and Bishop in the last week prior to the conference tournament in early March from Alabama Huntsville.
The Lions share something with a team that is regularly on WKUL FM (92.1). The Auburn Tigers are tops in the SEC and the nation with a 24 & 2 record, 12 & 1 in the conference.
For the Lady Lions, they are almost on equal terms of a good program out of the AHSAA.
Last Tuesday, the Good Hope Lady Raiders claimed their 2nd straight Northwest Regional championship at Wallace State and go to Birmingham for the Final Four 26 & 5.
Two former Lady Raiders are now Lady Lions. Heather Tetro has played well in her first season in the conference. Her twin sister Bailey, the 2024 Final Four MVP, is recovering from a leg injury she sustained in preseason.
Another local, Ella Collum from Cullman, hit 5 treys and scored 15 points in the homecoming victory vs. Southern Union. Collum is a 2 year player at Wallace, contributing to 49 wins in 59 games.
Very good collegiate basketball is in our backyard. Their styles and effort makes it worthwhile to come and see both perform at one of the best venues the sport has to offer.
