HANCEVILLE: New West Morgan basketball coach resides in where he grew up, Hanceville, Alabama.
Meyer has not coached from Tom Drake Coliseum since 2015 when he got the Cullman Bearcats into the Northwest Regional championship against Lee Huntsville.
On Wednesday evening, Meyer was back on the sidelines and his Rebels survived a tough outing with the Tarrant Wildcats, winning 63 to 58.
The Rebels had the Jefferson County visitor down in this 4A semifinal 20 to 10 when the first ended.
It became a challenge for the Rebels as their lead was just 32 to 29 at the half.
Tarrant slide in front with a 20 to 16 standing on the scoreboard in the 3rd, on top 49 to 48.
West Morgan was down by 1 when they scored the go ahead FG with over a minute remaining. They would finish with four points from the line in 6 attempts in crunch time.
Landon Henderson led the Rebels with 24, hitting 10 of 19 from the floor.
Koby Suggs provided 14, Keelan Murphy got 10 and Joshua Garland 9.
A balanced attack was on display for Tarrant. Jaylen Simmons paced the Wildcats scoring 15.
Tarrant, in their first time to play in the regional, completes a good season at 19 & 8.
West Morgan now plays in the regional final Monday, TBA.
