Can prep football teams keep winning with a new head coach?:

GDW looks at 7 winning programs now with a new leader on the field:

GDW Analysis:
Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) has 100 new head coaches in football for 2024.
Various reasons occur.
This story composed by Gameday Weekly, looks at seven schools that have become winners from 2020 through 2023.
Can these programs keep the winning formula with their team under a new leader?
Arab:
Lee Ozmint came to Arab and raised the Arabian Knights into good times the school had not seen. Twenty seven victories in 35 games between 2021 to 2023 with an 11 & 2 finish in 2022 is the best single season by the school in Marshall County.
Unfortunately, Ozmint had an off the field issue which resulted in him being dismissed in the spring.
New coach for Arab in 2024 is Kyle Routon.
Hartselle:
Bryan Moore turned Hartselle into a solid winner with the Tigers going 40 & 10 since 2020. The Tigers won 16 of their last 17 regional games, claiming the top spot in 2021 & 2022.
Moore got contacted by Opelika High School, saying goodbye to his tenure in Morgan County.
Bert Newton replaced Moore after being the Tigers' associate head coach last season.
Priceville:
Chris Foster made the Bulldogs successful by earning 26 victories in the last three years. Priceville had a run of 21 wins out of 24 tries from 2021 to 2022.
Foster has been replaced by Seth Parker, a former offensive coordinator at Bob Jones High School.
Russellville:
A program well known to the Fairview Aggies and West Point Warriors in recent time from being locked in 5A, Region 8, the Golden Tigers are no longer under the services of John Ritter.
Ritter led the squad to four consecutive regional championships, the last two defeating Fairview for top honors.
Ritter's team have 35 wins to their credit since 2020 in 49 games.
Dustin Goodman is the new coach for the Golden Tigers, coming to Russellville after the last two years as an assistant at Thompson.
JB Pennington:
The
3A school in nearby Blountsville, posted 17 wins in their last 22 games with Caleb Miles handling the head chores.
Miles has moved on to Arab to be a coordinator for Kyle Routon.
The Tigers were very strong in their region with back to back 5 & 1 seasons under Miles.
Jordan Cantrell comes to Pennington after being down in South Alabama coaching at Florala.
Clay Chalkville:
Down below the Birmingham area in Jefferson County, Clay Chalkville has seen greatness with two undefeated, state championship seasons with Drew Gilmer. The Cougars were 15 & 0 in 2021 and last season won Class 6A with a 14 & 0 mark.
Gilmer has stepped down with a former Clay standout taking over. Stuart Floyd was the Cougars' QB in 1999 when they won the AHSAA championship.
Floyd has been coaching in Jefferson County, with his previous time up in the town of Morris at Mortimer Jordan High School.
Hoover:
A majority of fans are well aware of the greatness this school has had when the Bucs were led by Rish Propst and Josh Niblett.
Times have slightly changed as Hoover was just 5 & 7 last season with Wade Waldrep the head coach.
Hoover released Waldrep and now has Gilmer coming to them from nearby Clay Chalkville.
These two coaches keep on going:
George Redding is about to begin his 18th season with the Fairview Aggies.
Lance Reese awaits his 15th year coaching the Guntersville Wildcats.
The two are very much neck and neck in winning at these 5A programs from Cullman and Marshall County.
Reese's squad has earned 119 victories in 161 games.
At Fairview, Redding has 117 wins. Redding is 2nd in all time wins in Cullman County football, tied with the late Ray Talley of Hanceville.
From 2020, Redding and the Aggies have 38 wins and just 10 losses.
Reese and Guntersville have 40 & 8 in that span. Both spent 2020 and 2021 in the same region.
Fairview moved to Region 8 in 2022 and played Guntersville in the first round that year at Dafford Smith Stadium.
The two are not in the same region this season due to reclassification.
Fairview will play in Region 7 of 5A with Guntersville battling others in Region 8.
In conclusion:
Schools understand the process of seeing coaching changes.
Some football programs have experienced it a little bit more around the GDW coverage in recent time than others.
Fairview, Good Hope and Vinemont have not encountered this status for at least a decade.
Coaches retire after being on the sideline for quite a while. Don Farley is the latest to say goodbye following 11 years leading West Point. Mark Britton went 17 years at his alma mater, Cullman, before he closed out a career of high success.
Teams that have been winning, do hope the pattern continues. A large number of schools are looking to become a winner and hope 2024 is just right for them.
