GDW Analysis:
DOTHAN: Ben Shedd's career as a golfer for the Cullman Bearcats is done as he graduated in May. Shedd said farewell in earning runner up in the AHSAA 6A state championship two weeks before he received his diploma.
His career in the sport continues with Shedd excelling in a huge event over the weekend from the Dothan Country Club.
Shedd claimed the championship in the 75th Future Masters.
After being locked in a four way tie for 3rd place in the first round, Shedd battled the course very well in the middle round last Friday.
He carded a 4-under par 66 for a 36 hole score of 135, 5 under par.
The final round was called off Saturday due to rain.
Shedd edged Brantley Moore from Memphis and Drew Williams of Greensboro, Georgia by two strokes. Both were tied for 2nd at 3 under par 137.
Williams had the first round lead by scoring a 67 with Shedd and three others two shots off the lead at 69.
Shedd was not the only local golfer involved in this event from the Wiregrass area.
West Point's Bailey Sutter, a recent champion in an event hosted by the Alabama Golf Association, was 7th in the field at an even par 140.
Sutter completed the first round at 1 over 71, then made progress with a 1 under par 70 in the second round.
A Cullman teammate of Shedd's Will Drake, played the event to a 2 round score of 4 over 144. Drake opened the event at a 3 over 70 and like Sutter, lowered his score in the final round at 1 over 71.
Drake is preparing to play in the AHSAA All Star series July 17 in Montgomery as a member of the North all stars.
Shedd, Sutter and Drake participated at the Dothan Country Club, celebrating its 100th anniversary. It became established in the Wiregrass area in 1923.
