GDW Analysis:
BIRMINGHAM: A pair of main weapons for the Decatur Heritage Lady Eagles would like to forget the 1st half of their 2A state semifinal Monday against Abbeville from Legacy Arena.
Leslie Hames and Genie McGhee were unable to display their consistency from the field after 16:00.
That changed in the 2nd half as Decatur Heritage wore down Abbeville 65 to 34.
The 2nd half was a 36 to 18 scoring edge by the No. 1 team in 2A girls.
DH was 15 of 32 in the final half following 11 of 27 through halftime.
What mattered for Johnny Jones' Lady Eagles is they had a 29 to 16 halftime lead and the 2nd half was controlled by them on both ends of the floor.
"We found a way to win, " Jones said. "We got after it and played defense."
Hames pointed out the environment of playing at Legacy Arena and fixing the shooters touch in the last half.
"It was much better for us in the 2nd half," she replied.
Hames would end the game leading the Lady Eagles with 19 points on 9 of 22 total FGs. McGhee netted 13 and pulled down 13 rebounds.
Aaliyah Troupe was solid with 14 points, hitting all five of her FG tries. Bri Tyson's 10 points was the 4th double digit scorer.
PG Emma Eastman had just 3, but a trey was big when it happened in the first to finish off an 8 to 0 run and a 16 to 8 lead.
Heritage now heads to the state title game Friday at 9:00 a.m.
