GDW Analysis:
BIRMINGHAM: Winning football has been with the Fairview Aggies since 2020. The Aggies have claimed 38 victories and only 10 losses with four consecutive berths to the AHSAA playoffs.
With the 2024 season two weeks from starting, the Aggies have been ranked 9th in the preseason state poll in Class 5A.
Fairview was 9 & 2 last season, 2nd in Region 8.
The Aggies have at least five to six starters returning on both sides of the ball, coach George Redding said during the Cullman County schools media day July 22.
Fairview is the only local team ranked in preseason.
The Aggies face a No. 1 team in a jamboree on August 23 from Dafford Smith Stadium. The Pisgah Eagles will visit and bring the top spot of Class 2A football with them. Pisgah was 12 & 2 and a state semifinalist last year.
Also on that Friday evening, the Good Hope Raiders pay a visit to No. 1 Fyffe from Class 3A in a jamboree. The Red Devils moved up to 3A play after they won the 2A championship in 2023.
Other teams known to local schools in being ranked in their respective class include Guntersville # 3 in 5A, Dora # 8 in 4A.
Hartselle, West Morgan, Locust Fork gained some points, but not enough to be in the preseason Top 10 in 6A, 4A and 3A.
Two rivals from nearby Winston County, had the same situation. The Addison Bulldogs and Lynn Bears are outside the 1A poll by a close margin.
These two will meet in a jamboree from AG Hicks Stadium on August 16.
