BIRMINGHAM: As the 2025 AHSAA girls basketball state tournament has completed its wonderful time of crowning 7 champions in the span of three days, two schools got to enjoy that "One Shining Moment" for the first time.
Scottsboro Lady Wildcats grabbed an exciting 54 to 53 victory over Ramsay Saturday morning in the 5A title game.
Park Crossing Thunderbirds took the 6A blue trophy back to Montgomery after defeating Chelsea 49 to 39.
Tradition continued for the following.
Hoover Lady Bucs won their 5th consecutive Class 7A title Saturday evening in outlasting Hillcrest Tuscaloosa 51 to 44.
Spring Garden is the best in 1A hoops for the 4th time in the last 6 years. The Lady Panthers rolled over Brilliant 77 to 43.
Trinity Presbyterian Lady Wildcats got their 3rd consecutive state championship, but first in playing Class 4A. Trinity prevented the Good Hope Lady Raiders from repeating in a 67 to 27 triumph Friday evening,
Back as a state champion is Lauderdale County. The Lady Tigers earned a thrilling 58 to 52 OT victory against St. James. This is the first one for the school from Rogersville since 2016.
Pisgah regained the championship stature in 2A play in a tremendous high scoring affair, 84 to 72 over Decatur Heritage. Pisgah had won the 2A crown from 2018 to 2022, before Mars Hill and Ider grabbed the spotlight from them the previous two years.
Final results had the Northeast Region with 3 titles, Spring Garden, Pisgah and Hoover.
The Northwest Region claimed 2 with Lauderdale County and Scottsboro.
The Central Region also netted two as their winners are from Montgomery in Trinity and Park Crossing.
From being ranked by the state sportswriters, Spring Garden, Lauderdale Co, Trinity, Park Crossing all prevailed as a No. 1 ball club.
Decatur Heritage, Ramsay and Hillcrest had No. 1 ranks entering the playoffs and wind up runners up in their respective class.
The matchups of No. 1 vs. No. 2 for state titles were between Lauderdale Co and St. James in 3A, Ramsay vs. Scottsboro in 5A.
Trinity's encounter vs. Good Hope was No. 1 in 4A taking on No. 4. The Hillcrest-Hoover title bout in 7A was No. 1 going up against No. 3.
Brilliant was the only unranked squad to make a great run and play for a state championship the first time in program history. They reached Birmingham in winning the NW Regional on February 17 when Macy Moore hit a 3 as time expired for a 46 to 43 upset of Marion County.
