GDW Analysis:
BIRMINGHAM: Perfection was the motto for the Hoover Bucs. They closed out the AHSAA basketball championships Saturday evening, taking down the Florence Falcons 66 to 56.
Hoover displayed something that is extremely difficult to accomplish in this sport.
Compiling an undefeated season. The Bucs prevailed in 35 assignments, denying Florence a chance to win the crown for the first time.
Jackson High School repeated as the best in Class 4A in a thrilling 44 to 42 triumph vs. Plainview, winning the game as time expired.
First time winners of a state championship were Vigor in Class 5A, Montgomery Academy in 2A. and Providence Christian in 3A.
RC Hatch won the state title for the first time since 2008 in outscoring Brantley 69 to 67 in the 1A battle.
Paul Bryant is the champion in 6A hoops for the 2nd time in its program. The school from Tuscaloosa defeated Pinson Valley 56 to 44 in getting the title for the first time since 2017.
Northwest Regional champions were unsuccessful in finishing the year as a state champion.
Mars Hill Bible fell in the 3A final to Providence Christian, Pinson Valley lost to Paul Bryant in 6A and Florence fell to Hoover for the best in Class 7A.
AHSAA reported attendance for the Final Four, an event of six days from Legacy Arena at the BJCC was 58,759.
Saturday's total was 13,759 as the 5A, 6A and 7A schools were in the spotlight.
Games in 5A and 6A on Wednesday drew 12,110. These were semifinal contests.
The Friday figure was 9,509 with Good Hope having good support from their student body and adults in playing for the 4A girls championship with Trinity Presbyterian.
