New feature by GDW to honor teams & players in local football:

GDW Analysis:
Gameday Weekly is presenting a new feature in spotlighting local AHSAA football.
A team and player spotlight will be provided by GDW throughout the 2024 season.
Team spotlight:
West Point Warriors - West Point earned this opportunity of a good outing in their jamboree game on August 16 vs. the Hanceville Bulldogs.
In three quarters of the varsity battle, the Warriors scored a 27 to 0 decision.
Kevin McCravy is now the leader for the Warriors after Don Farley retired following 11 years in becoming the school's winningest coach.
Performance wise, West Point had 379 yards total offense through the three periods with the varsity going to work.
Four touchdowns on four consecutive possessions in the first half enabled the Warriors to get control and lead at halftime 27 to 0.
Through GDW's statistics, the Warriors passed for 227 yards and ran for 152 yards, netting 14 first downs. The running game took over in the third with 95 yards on 10 attempts, four runs of better than 10 yards.
West Point did not allow Hanceville to get into the end zone. Hanceville had its best opportunity following the recovery of a bad snap late in the third. Hanceville reached the West Point six, only to lose yardage back to the 10 on 3rd down and see a pass go incomplete in the end zone on 4th and goal.
The Warriors tackled Hanceville runners nine times behind the line for losses of 37 yards. They allowed Hanceville 46 yards passing on four completions out of 16 attempts.
West Point will use the jamboree as a building tool with the season to opener for the Warriors Friday at West Point vs. the Haleyville Lions.
Player spotlight:
QB Hunter Hensley and WR Bryant Moon for West Point.
Hensley started well with six completions in his first nine throws, accounting for 227 yards and three touchdowns.
The TDs were 60 yards to Moon, 56 to Brayden Monfort and 69 to Moon in the 2nd. All three TDs came on slant routes.
Moon would handle four tosses from Hensley and amass 159 yards and two TDs. The 69 yarder was the longest and the last time the Warriors would score. This came with 3:59 to play in the 2nd quarter.
Hensley enters his senior season as the team's signal caller with Moon just a sophomore as one of the wide outs.
