GDW Analysis:
Gameday Weekly continues to recognize outstanding student athletes for how they perform in competition.
With spring sports now in full swing, GDW honors those who made an impact in games covered by GDW.
Two outstanding performers are being placed into the GDW spotlight.
Softball:
Good Hope P Molly Benefield.
In a huge Cullman County game March 3 at West Point, Benefield was at her very best to help the Lady Raiders in a 7 to 1 victory.
The sophomore right hander threw a complete game, giving up 1 run on 3 hits with one hit batter and a game high 13 strikeouts.
Benefield pitched six scoreless innings for the Lady Raiders, finishing the game with back to back strikeouts.
Benefield had at least 1 strikeout of a West Point hitter in each inning.
Baseball:
Vinemont SS Kayden Henderson.
Henderson is the leadoff batter for the Eagles who have the best record in the early part of the season at 11 & 3.
In two games seen by GDW, Henderson would compose a .710 average on 5 hits in 7 at bats.
Against Holly Pond March 4, Henderson was 3 for 4 with 3 runs batted in, 2 runs scored, 4 stolen bases as Vinemont won 11 to 1.
Last Friday at Mike Cupp Field vs. Cold Springs, Henderson went 2 for 3 with a pair of triples, an RBI and 3 runs scored. The Eagles won by the final of 12 to 2.
His play at shortstop and being the leadoff batter was huge for the Eagles to go 4 & 1 in the first week of games played in the month of March.
