Eagles drop to 2nd place in 3A, Area 12 standings with Pennington:

GDW Analysis:
VINEMONT: Vinemont Eagles' bullpen became ineffective Monday evening that knocked the Eagles out of 1st place in AHSAA 3A, Area 12 baseball.
JB Pennington scored 6 times in the final 2 innings, 4 in their half of the 7th to defeat Vinemont 7 to 4 in the first of a three game series between the two programs.
Pennington moved to 3 & 0 in the area and 8 & 4 on the season. Vinemont fell to 2 & 1 in area play and 11 & 4 for the season.
Vinemont starter Banks Borwick worked his way into the 6th inning, throwing a good game. The sophomore allowed just three hits, three runs all unearned. He walked three and struck out five.
Leading 4 to 1 heading to the 6th, Borwick allowed the Tigers a leadoff single and an error on a relay throw to put the runner at 2nd.
The next batter was safe on an error down the left field line. The runner scored to make it 4 to 2.
Coach Hunter Cornelius replaced Borwick with lefty Reynolds. A sacrifice bunt brought in the 2nd run of the inning and it was a 4 to 3 contest.
Reynolds got out of trouble when he handled a ground ball and threw to 3rd base to Josh Rhodes to get the runner leaning too far off the bag.
The inning ended with Vinemont still in the lead at 4 to 3.
The Eagles could not add to their side of the scoreboard. In the 7th, Rhodes was brought in to be the closer.
He got an out on a strikeout then allowed a single followed by three consecutive walks.
Carson Drummond followed and had his difficulty. The Tigers would tally four runs, three thanks to base on balls and went to the last of the 7th with a 7 to 4 lead.
Vinemont was able to get runners on base on singles by Jacob Hale and Owen McKenney.
But the Tigers managed to get consecutive outs and end the area game at 6:51 p.m. The game was played in 2 hours, 16 minutes from Mike Cupp Field.
McKenney had a two run single while Kayden Henderson drove in a run with a base hit in Vinemont's 3 run 5th inning to take a 4 to 1 advantage.
Vinemont managed six hits but left 9 runners on base in the final 4 innings.
The series heads to Blountsville for a doubleheader Tuesday with Game 1 set for 4:30 p.m.
