GDW prep football spotlight from Week 2:
Holly Pond Broncos: In getting their first victory of the 2024 season, Holly Pond made it a Friday evening that stands alone in the history of Bronco football.
Holly Pond erupted for 10 touchdowns, setting a school record as they ran past county rival Hanceville 74 to 35.
The Broncos went to work with three scoring drives in the 1st quarter, leading the visitors 20 to 7.
At the half, the Broncos had scored on 5 possessions to hold a 34 to 14 advantage.
In the 2nd half, the offense under new coach Will McDaniel made scoring a habit.
Three times Holly Pond crossed the Hanceville end zone and the game was well in command of the Broncos, 58 to 14.
The final stanza saw the Broncos compose two more scoring series and when the new scoreboard was turned off after the game, Holly Pond had produced 74 points with Hanceville scoring 35.
Holly Pond is currently the top offense in local football, with an average of 45.5 points a game.
The Broncos were playing Hanceville for the first time since 2019. Holly Pond won that evening with a lot of points on the board, a 36 to 20 triumph.
Player spotlight:
Boston Gibbs and Zayne Faulkner of Holly Pond:
Gibbs was dazzling with over 200 yards and three touchdowns, two in the first half with one covering 73 yards.
His third TD was the Bronco finale in the 4th quarter, a run to the end zone from 40 yards out.
Faulkner would earn 104 yards of rushing offense for his team. Faulkner tallied three TDs in the 2nd half with the Broncos ending this county contest, scoring 10 touchdowns and having well over 600 yards total offense.
