GOOD HOPE: Good Hope Lady Raiders volleyball hosted a youth camp Saturday at Good Hope Gymnasium.
The motto was "improve your skills and have fun on your summer."
This was a great opportunity for the Lady Raiders to work out with players from the 2nd to the 6th grade. It served as a positive motivation for the team as they can officially start practice for the 2024 season on Monday, as allowed by the Alabama High School Athletic Association.
Good Hope coach Natasha Holder told Gameday Weekly 42 youngsters had signed up for the daylong event. The camp was broken down with a morning session, followed by an hour for lunch and an afternoon round in learning different phases of the game.
For the youngsters to invest a day into this has great meaning. Good Hope volleyball has enjoyed success with three consecutive Cullman County championships, 66 wins in the last two years and a berth to the AHSAA 4A playoffs.
Holder welcomed the participants to the event when it began at 9:00 a.m.
She then let her 2024 squad introduce themselves in the grade they are about to encounter with school to start for them in the later part of the upcoming week. The players served as instructors with setters, hitters and defensive specialists working all over the floor.
A variety of drills would be what the campers would get from the aspects of serving, receiving and attacking.
Conditioning was a point of emphasis in understanding proper stretching before getting into intense drills.
Team competition would come into the process.
Holder said to GDW, they have been working with the Good Hope youth program that is getting ready for its new season.
Good Hope will begin the 2024 schedule in a tri match at home on the 22nd vs. Holly Pond and Hayden. This will be Holder's 8th year at Good Hope, which has her ranked on top of active county coaches in the current longest tenure at a program.
The Lady Raiders will host a tournament on the 24th with the teams to be announced later.
