GDW Analysis:
Gameday Weekly got the new week of basketball playdays going Monday with hoopmania from the Cullman Basketball Complex.
Good Hope, Fairview and West Point were the locals as the trio showed steady play with the trio combining for 4 wins out of 5 opportunities under GDW's analysis.
Good Hope, the host of this playday, but using the much larger CBC as a tripleheader of games went on for much of the day.
The defending Cullman County champion soared over Lawrence County 77 to 50 thanks to what the Raiders do rather well, get into up tempo with plenty of scoring.
Drew Adams' Raiders are again, experience in different positions on the floor. Jacob Haynes is running the point guard spot with sharpshooters from the wings in Tyler Cone and Tucker Malin.
Isiah Turner and Tyler Byrd provided depth last season and will look to be involve in the system much more.
One stepping on to the varsity role for the first time and showing what he can be to the team was guard Kye McSwain.
The Raiders shot out to a a 38 to 15 advantage on Lawrence County by halftime. Good Hope stayed hot with 39 points in the final half as many shots were coming from long distance.
Fairview overcame a sluggish outing in a 62 to 41 loss to Decatur Heritage, by pulling out a 43 to 40 triumph over Lauderdale County in its 2nd game.
Coach Ganus was at full strength he said to GDW before the Aggies took to the floor.
Fairview ran into a sound Decatur Heritage crew that shot well in ending the 1st half on a 24 to 6 run and a 38 to 16 cushion by the break.
The Aggies slowed the Eagles in the final half and managed to outscore Heritage 25 to 24.
Against a stout 3A team from Lauderdale County, the Aggies went ahead late in the half for a 21 to 18 lead.
It came down to the final minute in which the Aggies jumped back on top and made some good plays defensively to avoid a letdown and go 1 & 1 on the CBC floor.
Before playing at CBC, the Aggies were engaged over the weekend in a playday series from Wallace State, with one of the opponents being the Cullman Bearcats.
West Point came to the CBC ready with plenty of weapons unloading in a 74 to 58 shootout against Decatur Heritage.
The Warriors then capped off a 2 & 0 day in a hard fought 51 to 45 triumph over Lauderdale County.
Coach Mason Voce's Warriors ripped the cords for 36 in the first half with Decatur Heritage, having a double digit lead at intermission.
Both continued to set a blistering pace in the final half as West Point scored 38 while Heritage produced 33.
Leading the West Point attack as very much anticipated is shooting guard Jay Lamar. Others who made their time count from the offensive end were shooting guard Cade Welborn, forward Maddox Chapman, forward Brier Taylor, guard Asa Sutter and a new addition in point guard Cade Vincent who transferred to West Point from Cullman.
West Point was down 28 to 24 at the half with Lauderdale County. The Warriors then stepped it up when the game went down to the wire with a three pointer and free throws from Vincent, plus a FG by Chapman and a short range jumper from Lamar.
West Point ended the game with an 8 to 2 run.
West Point is planning to play in a playday series Tuesday from Wallace State.
Good Hope has one scheduled for Friday with it to be at the Cullman Basketball Complex.
