Week 9 local football report and regional update:
Vinemont Eagles showed great character to bounce back from a Week 8 loss in AHSAA 3A, Region 5 to knock off the Oakman Wildcats 20 to 7 on the road Friday evening.
The Eagles finish their road schedule at 4 wins and 1 loss.
Winfield is 6 & 0 in the region after beating Hanceville 57 to 6. In 2nd place is Gordo following a Friday win against Phil Campbell. Gordo is 5 & 1.
Vinemont has 3rd place at 4 & 2 with Oakman and Midfield 3 & 3, Phil Campbell 2 & 4.
Vinemont has the tiebreaker of wins vs. Oakman and Midfield. The Eagles end region play at Vinemont next week vs. Winfield.
Good Hope 34, Fayette Co 12:
FAYETTE: Last week the Good Hope Raiders clinched a playoff berth in 4A, Region 5 by defeating Hamilton 28 to 6.
The No. 6 team in 4A romped by Fayette County Friday to give them a home game in the 1st round of the AHSAA playoffs on November 8.
Good Hope is 8 & 0 and 6 & 0 in the region. The Raiders host Dora next week with the Region 5 championship hanging in the balance.
Cullman 42, Decatur 14:
DECATUR: Cullman Bearcats stormed to a 28 to 0 lead at the half in whipping Decatur to earn the 4th seed in AHSAA 6A, Region 7.
The Bearcats finish the region at 3 & 3. They are 5 & 4 for the season and have won three of their last four games.
Cullman completes the regular season schedule next week at home vs. the Buckhorn Bucks.
Fairview 38, Sardis 18:
FAIRVIEW: Taking on Sardis in a non regional contest, the No. 5 ranked Aggies in 5A football moved to 7 & 0 with the victory from Dafford Smith Stadium. Fairview is 3 & 0 at home this season and has won its last 8 home games in regular season from 2023 to 2024.
The Aggies will completed Region 7 play next week at home against East Limestone.
Fyffe 61, Holly Pond 18:
Broncos drop to 3 & 5 overall and 2 & 4 in 3A, Region 8.
Russellville 44, West Point 13:
The Warriors 2 game winning streak was halted by the Golden Tigers in West Point's last time to play at home this season. West Point is 2 & 3 in 5A, Region 7 and 2 & 6 for the season.
Now qualified for the AHSAA playoffs:
Cullman Bearcats in 6A
Fairview Aggies in 5A
Good Hope Raiders in 4A
Vinemont Eagles in 3A.
These four have combined for 27 wins and 6 losses in 2024, making this group solid against the Top 4 from programs in neighboring counties.
