GDW Analysis:
HANCEVILLE: Local teams taking part in the Veterans' Day Tip Off Classic Monday from Wallace State's Tom Drake Coliseum made things happen.
Three wins in four opportunities with Holly Pond and West Point playing to a winning formula in their season opener.
Holly Pond claimed a 51 to 41 victory against Appalachian, West Point was superior over Wilson 70 to 46.
The Cullman Bearcats maintained their "chaotic" play on the floor for defeating Chelsea 76 to 57.
Fairview could not give the county a sweep in the classic. The Aggies dropped a 57 to 47 decision to the Priceville Bulldogs.
Holly Pond:
Tim Willougby's Broncos displayed team play with five scoring in the 2nd and a 21 to 13 advantage for a 29 to 20 halftime lead.
Asher Thrift was the main target for deep range shooting by hitting three in the 2nd.
The play of Cade Allbright near the basket paid dividends with the center scoring three FGs.
Holly Pond was ahead 42 to 26 entering the final period with Appalachian outscoring the Broncos 15 to 9 to reduce the final margin to 10.
Allbright got 12 and was selected the player of the game. Thrift finished with 11, Carson Ryan scored 9, Ty Dunn 6, Fox Westall 5 and Sawyer Olinger 6.
Abraham Mena's 12 was tops for Appalachian.
West Point consistent in scoring:
Through three periods of play, West Point's offense was consistent. The Warriors had put 20, 25 and 20 points on the Tom Drake Coliseum scoreboard.
The scoring was shared between Maddox Chapman, Jay Lamar and Jaxon Shelton.
Chapman would produce 9 FGs and a game high 23 points, enroute to being the top player of the contest.
Lamar was solid at the line in a 9 for 9 outing and had 17 points in the opener.
Shelton showed his scoring by delivering 15 on 7 FGs, one from 3 point range.
West Point led 20 to 10 after the first, 45 to 19 at the half and 65 to 32 following the 3rd.
Cullman gets hot early in victory vs. Chelsea:
Cullman came to Wallace State eager to continue what the Bearcats had done last Thursday in their opener from Bearcat Arena vs. Brewer.
The Bearcats shot out like a cannon with a 25 to 12 lead following the first. Jake Dorough was sharp with his shooting in providing Stu Stuedeman's Bearcats 13 in the first.
Cullman led 43 to 25 when the half ended. Chelsea managed to outscore the 'Cats 21 to 13 in the 3rd and close the gap to 56 to 46.
But in the 4th, the 'Cats soared again, scoring 20 in the period to put the game out of Chelsea's reach.
Dorough would knock down 6 treys, score 26 points and be selected the player of the game.
Evan Wilson had 10, Gray Hopper flipped in 15 with three coming from long distance.
Freshman center Brooks Loftin added 9 and Preston Gay scored 10.
Sluggish 4th period keeps Fairview from winning:
Fairview hung with Priceville for the first three periods.
The Aggies went to the locker room up 29 to 28 as they overcame a first period deficit.
Priceville regained the advantage and led the Aggies going to the 4th by the score of 42 to 41.
Coach Thomas Ganus' Aggies converted 2 FGs in the final period with Priceville hitting 5 shots for an advantage and going from a close game to a double digit triumph.
Senior Coleman Gann led Priceville with 20 points to be named the player of the game.
Landon Smith tallied 12 in the opener for the Aggies with Callin Collins scoring 11 and Trace Richardson adding 8 and Ayden Oatz scoring 8 with a couple of treys in the process.
