GDW Analysis:
After coaching girls basketball at Cullman High School for two years, Jessica McBrayer has stepped aside from leading the program.
Through media sources, Gameday Weekly has learned that McBrayer will not continue to be on the sidelines in a sport that she has earned great recognition.
McBrayer was at Wallace State Community College for six years, keeping the Lady Lions around the top of the Alabama Community College Conference with 125 victories in 166 games.
Her career winning percentage in ACCC hoops was .753. Her final season consisted of 24 wins, 7 losses and 2nd in the conference to Shelton State.
McBrayer got hired by Cullman in the spring of 2023 to take over the team after Jonathan Hayes led it in 2022/23.
The two years that McBrayer handled the role, Cullman was 30 & 33, according to a reliable source that follows high school basketball.
Cullman's 2024/25 squad went on a strong run late in the season, winning 5 of its last 7 and reached the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2012.
A victory at Clay Chalkville February 7 by the final of 61 to 57 in OT, propelled Cullman to the Northwest Regional for a 6A semifinal with arch rival Hartselle.
Hartselle defeated the Lady 'Cats at Tom Drake Coliseum on February 13.
McBrayer remains as the head softball coach and will through the rest of the season.
In her first year coaching this sport, Cullman is 2 & 1 with a game Monday at Cordova and then back home Tuesday to play East Lawrence.
Gameday Weekly is aware that school officials are in the process of finding a successor to McBrayer.
No timetable has been announced.
