GDW Analysis:
All football teams sanctioned by the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) have had a week to get on to the practice field for workouts.
At the end of last week, teams were able to go into full gear and engage in a series of scrimmages.
Now a new week is here with each setting their sights on the 2024 opener.
Several teams this week will have a dress rehearsal for they will be involved in a jamboree.
From the Gameday Weekly coverage area, that starts on Thursday when the Cullman Bearcats go into Tuscaloosa County and play the Northridge Jaguars. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
For Friday, three other locals will step into the spotlight for a preseason encounter.
Holly Pond Broncos will be traveling to Walnut Grove in Etowah County, The Broncos and West End will play a half, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Holly Pond then plays the 2nd half of this jamboree vs. the JB Pennington Tigers at 6:45 p.m.
County rivals the Hanceville Bulldogs and West Point Warriors tangle from West Point at 7:00 p.m.
This jamboree will consist of new coaches for both teams. Levi Estes is now leading Hanceville with the new commander at West Point being Kevin McCravy.
Will McDaniel has taken over running Holly Pond with the county having three new coaches for 2024 play in the AHSAA.
Elsewhere in jamboree play:
On Thursday, Sardis will be at Priceville at 7:00, Arab has a game in Huntsville vs. the Grissom Tigers at 7:00, Huntsville Crimson Panthers journey to Mortimer Jordan for a 7:00 p.m. game.
The Friday schedule nearby sees the Falkville Blue Devils playing host to the Meek Tigers at 7:00, the Addison Bulldogs welcoming the Lynn Bears to AG Hicks Stadium in a 7:00 p.m. matchup.
Lawrence County Red Devils have a short drive up Highway 157 to meet their rival, the Hatton Hornets at 6:00 p.m.
In Walker County, the Jasper Vikings will meet the Oakman Wildcats at 7:00 from Ki-Ro/Gambrill Field.
Haleyville Lions are at Bubba Scott Stadium with Westminster Christian from Huntsville coming in for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
Two strong schools from Northwest Alabama will see each other in a jamboree Friday. Mars Hill Bible goes to Deshler with kickoff to be at 7:00 p.m.
Regular season play locally will begin on Thursday, August 22 with Cullman in a first time battle at Bob Jones.
A busy Friday night the 23rd will feature Cold Springs coming to Hanceville, Falkville at Vinemont, Haleyville at West Point and Appalachian traveling to Holly Pond.
Fairview and Good Hope will get jamboree games. Fairview meets the Pisgah Eagles next Friday at Dafford Smith Stadium.
Good Hope goes into Dekalb County for a fall game with the Fyffe Red Devils.
All games next weekend will begin at 7:00 p.m.
