TUSCALOOSA: Last Saturday, the Auburn Tigers lost at Neville Arena to the Florida Gators.
Saturday, the Tigers took their trip to Coleman Coliseum and gained a huge 94 to 85 victory over Alabama.
The game was carried live on 92.1 FM.
This was a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup in the nation as well as the Southeastern Conference.
Auburn ended Alabama's 7 game winning streak with over 14,000 attending, a large percentage cheering for the Crimson Tide.
Bruce Pearl's Tigers have the SEC lead to themselves now at 11 & 1 and 23 & 2 overall.
They will maintain their No. 1 national ranking.
Alabama drops to 10 ^ 2 in the league and 21 & 4 for the season.
Auburn got two huge victories away from the plains for the week in outplaying Vanderbilt Tuesday and the triumph Saturday against their in-state rival.
It's questionable if they will remain 2nd or drop down the national rankings, pending on what happens with Florida vs. South Carolina Saturday night in Gainesville. The Gators are 8 & 3 in the SEC heading into this matchup.
Auburn went on a run late in the half and left the floor on top of Alabama 42 to 33.
The Tigers would push the lead to as many as 14 before the Tide answered with a run in several minutes.
They tied the game twice at 65 to 65 and 68 to 68 before Auburn locked in on victory and doing it with Johni Broome suffering a slight injury that slowed his mobility late in the contest.
Two Tigers went out on 5 fouls, Dylan Caldwell and Chad Baker-Mazara. Baker-Mazara had 15 as the Tiger offense shot 59 percent in the 2nd half, 52 percent on 6 of 11 treys and scored 52 in the final 20:00.
Broome collected 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, Denver Jones tallied 16, Miles Kelly 15, Cheyney Johnson 14 and Pettiford 13.
The talented Mark Sears carried the Alabama scoring with 18, but managed to make just 2 of 11 treys.
Alabama, a good 3 point team, was only 5 of 26 in this high profiled game.
Five Tiders failed to convert in long range shooting.
Next for the Tigers will be Wednesday at Neville Arena vs. the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Game time is 8:00 p.m. CST with the game to be live on WKUL FM (92.1).
