GDW Analysis:
MONTGOMERY: Team North fought off a bad 2nd period in the AHSAA All Star basketball game Tuesday from the Cramton Bowl Multiplex.
A 31 to 23 first period lead became a 50 to 44 deficit for the North when the half ended.
However, the 2nd half was a different story.
The North romped to a 53 to 35 scoring edge, claiming a 97 to 85 victory.
Jake Dorough, the all state shooting guard for the Cullman Bearcats, got to perform for the North.
After shooting 17 of 42 in the first half, the North converted 21 of 34 attempts in the final half. They made 6 of 12 from three point land.
For the game, the North was 38 of 76 for 50 percent, 11 of 30 in treys and 10 of 14 from the line for 71 percent.
Dorough played 10 minutes for the North, scoring a field goal in four tries. He added two rebounds to his stats total.
Nine North players accounted for double figures.
Leading the way was Jayden Williams from 5A state champion Fairfield. He would take home the MVP award as he scored 21 points, shot 8 of 12 from the floor and snared eight rebounds.
Peyton Wiggins of Huffman delivered 18 while Devin Barksdale of Jacksonville and Fred Derrick of 6A champion Buckhorn tossed in 17.
Desmond Williams of Baker had the hot hand for the South with 22 points, 6 of 13 shooting and 5 rebounds. He claimed the MVP award.
Dorough was coached by Patrick Davis of Vestavia and Bret Waldrep from Covenant Christian.
The administrative coach was Brant Llewellyn of Lauderdale County.
Team North has an all time record of 51 wins against 30 losses in this all star encounter held every summer.
