GDW Analysis:
WEST POINT: For the 2nd time in the last three weeks, a volleyball playday series was hosted by West Point High School.
First year coach Meagan Cagle had her Lady Warriors on the floor of Jim Boyd Gymnasium Friday, using every opportunity to perform to a high level a month before the 2024 season officially begins.
West Point was joined in the playday locally by the Holly Pond Lady Broncos.
Others that were involved in this encounter included Falkville, Decatur Heritage, Corner and Covenant Christian.
The afternoon at Boyd Gymnasium was spent with activity on two courts for approximately 30 minutes in competition.
Gameday Weekly appeared in seeing West Point play Covenant Christian and Corner with Holly Pond getting Corner and Falkville.
Covenant Christian from Florence, was 20 & 18 last season.
Falkville endures success last season with 15 wins and 11 losses.
Corner was the best team of Friday's participants from last season, winning 35 out of 43 matches.
GDW has seen West Point and Holly Pond in playday activity from Jim Boyd Gym two weeks ago (July 12) and Friday.
Cagle was hired by West Point in the spring and has shown her skills of teaching and coaching volleyball with the team following her command.
For four years at Cullman, Cagle set a tone with the Lady Bearcats averaging 27 wins per season.
She took two years off and is back with West Point an experienced unit from 2023 featuring key personnel as Maci Brown, Laklin Shadix, Katie Beth Yovino, Caitlee Simmons, Patton Fell and Adrianna Owens.
West Point was working hard against Covenant Christian and Corner on serving and receiving the ball.
Some new personnel will provide them the opportunity to show a high competitive edge in Cullman County play and also in AHSAA 5A, Area 15.
For Adrien Adams and her Holly Pond Lady Broncos, a change awaits them as they said goodbye to talented people such as Kamryn Tankersley, Emma Earl, Kaylee Rohrscheib, Ellie Burls and Gracie Armstrong.
The Lady Broncos do return senior Darla Frederick and juniors Blakely Baggett and Ava Thomas. The rest of 2024 will be personnel who were on the junior varsity a season ago.
GDW was able to see this week, Cold Springs, Good Hope and Fairview at Good Hope's playday series Monday and Tuesday then West Point and Holly Pond in the spotlight on Friday.
Others that took part in playdays for the final week of this format were Vinemont in three days at Wallace State, Hanceville hosting one on Monday that involved Cullman Christian and others.
The season starts on August 22 with Holly Pond down at Good Hope for a tri match vs. the Lady Raiders and Holly Pond.
Good Hope goes into 2024 volleyball winners of the county championship the last three years.
