Local runners take part in events held in Scottsboro & Moulton:

GDW Analysis:
Four local teams took to a course over the weekend to open the 2024 AHSAA cross country season.
Cold Springs went up to the Scottsboro Invitational while Cullman, Holly Pond and West Point were involved in the Pepsi Classic from Alexander Park in Moulton.
SCOTTSBORO: Winning was again on display by the Cold Springs Lady Eagles.
The defending 2A state champion got 2024 under way in claiming the top prize with 30 points in the small school division, finishing well in front of runner up Pisgah with 51 and Sand Rock with 55.
Team effort was the key for Casey Howell's Lady Eagles. His 5 runners earned Top 10 honors.
Macie Huffstutler earned 2nd in the run at 21:57.66, Claire Huffstutler 4th at 22:30.17. Paizley Whitlow was right behind in 5th place with a time of 22:34.76.
Eighth grader Kynzlie Myrex took home 9th at 23:33.08 and all star Hayla Watson 10th with a time of 23:47.73.
  Senior Sage Nelson shined for Cold Springs with a championship winning time in the small division of 17:09.34. Right behind him was senior Drew Dykes at 17:50.65.
Logan Perdue gave a good outing with 10th place and a time of 19:04.53.
JB Pennington was the winner with 31 points scored while the Eagles tallied 39 for the runner up position.
MOULTON: Cullman sophomore Mabry Free ran her way to 8th in the Pepsi Challenge from Lawrence County. Free finished at 20:43.59.
The Cullman Bearcats gained 3rd place in their run with Huntsville the winner by scoring 65 points and Cornith (MS) 2nd at 68. Cullman accounted for 78 as James Clemens was a distant 4th with 114.
Cullman was led by sophomore Connor Robinson in a 9th place at 17:30.19.
Henry Crocker was 12th with a time of 17:38.90 and Andrue Barnett 13th at 17:42.41.

 Up next is the Chickasaw Trails Invitational at Oakville Indian Mounds Park near Moulton this Saturday.
Local teams to take part in the traditional event are Cold Springs, Holly Pond, Vinemont and West Point.
