GDW volleyball team spotlight for the week:
Cullman Lady Bearcats: Cullman's first season with new coach Amy Hudson in playing at Bearcat Arena was successful.
The Lady 'Cats defeated Homewood 3 games to 1 on October 8. It was their 20th victory of the season.
Cullman only played at Bearcat Arena nine times, claiming victory in seven assignments.
The Lady 'Cats have shown solid play, especially on the home floor by knocking off good squads like Hartselle, Springville, Austin, Good Hope, Muscle Shoals, Danville and Homewood.
Jasper and Bob Jones are the only teams that found a way to be victorious when they took on the local 6A school.
The home winning percentage for Cullman in 2024 volleyball is .777.

Prep player spotlight for the week:
Ava Ray of Cullman: In her final appearance at Bearcat Arena, Ray reached a milestone of 1,000 kills.
This took place last Tuesday during the 3rd set of Cullman's matchup with Homewood.
Time was called after Ray slammed the ball on to Homewood's side with the announcement being made over the PA system and an ovation followed with her teammates congratulating her.
Ray did not get to start her senior season until a few weeks after play had begun.
Since her return, Ray has been steady, and balance has been shown as she presents another weapon on the front row to be effective when Cullman attacks.
The Lady 'Cats defeated Homewood 3 games to 1 to cap off a 7 & 2 season at Bearcat Arena and the memory of greatness being accomplished by a fine student athlete.
Ray along with Olivia Dover, represented the school in its fall media day, meeting with Gameday Weekly and others 10 days before the season got under way in the traditional Juanita Boddie Classic at Hoover.
