Lady Eagles start the new season well with a new leader:

GDW prep volleyball team spotlight from 1st week:

Vinemont Lady Eagles: New coach Bobby Daniels put the Lady Eagles into work and they responded on opening weekend with four wins in six matches.
Getting to begin the 2024 season from home, Vinemont opened on August 22 in sweeping a tri match with Columbia 25 to 10 and 25 to 18, followed by two wins over Cullman Christian School 25 to 14, 25 to 14.
The Lady Eagles had a five team invitational on campus August 24.
Lindsay Lane from Athens opened up by defeating the Lady Eagles 25 to 15 and 25 to 12.
Vinemont then regained momentum as the Lady Eagles defeated Falkville 25 to 4 and 25 to 21.
The best test of the day was in the third assignment vs. Hayden.
Vinemont fell in the first set in a tight battle, 25 to 23. The Lady Eagles then showed character and claimed back to back victories of 25 to 20 and 15 to 8 in the tiebreaker.
That kept the Lady Eagles alive in hopes of winning their invitational.
However, Decatur High School completed a tour of Vinemont finishing 4 & 0 on the day to win the championship.
The Red Raiders swept the Lady Eagles 25 to 6 and 25 to 17.

Player spotlight from first week:

Morgan Flanagan and Carley Stephens of Vinemont.
Flanagan made her presence in the season opener. The senior scored five consecutive service points and had a kill vs. Columbia.
Three service points came from Flanagan in the first set against Cullman Christian including an ace. Late in the 2nd set, Flanagan was effective with three service points to provide solid play in the debut for the team under coach Daniels.
Stephens rose to a solid outing in the first win of the invitational vs, Falkville. The left hander accounted for 16 consecutive points on serve with Vinemont winning in a dominating margin.
In the tiebreaker with Hayden, Stephens was at her best by a couple of kills to put her team ahead. Four consecutive service points with an ace in the process was huge for Vinemont to earn victory in the first time they had to go to a tiebreaking set.

Flanagan and Stephens will look to show their talent this weekend when another invitational will be played at Vinemont gymnasium.
