GDW Analysis:
Eleven days into the month of June, several schools around the Gameday Weekly coverage area are trying to fill vacancies.
The latest GDW has learned is nearby in the city of Blountsville in Blount County.
JB Pennington is seeking to replace basketball coach Daniel Allison, who submitted his resignation to the public on June 9.
Allison, who has a background of coaching and teaching at West Point High School, coached Pennington hoops for the past two seasons.
The 3A school is also looking to fill vacancy in its football program.
Handling the process for the Pennington administration is assistant principal Phillip Lawson with the basketball hiring while principal Steven Bryson is taking care of the football hiring, according to information provided to GDW.
GDW is aware of the current situations in schools trying to replace coaching vacancies:
Danville: Basketball coach with announcement expected on Thursday during meeting of the Morgan County Board of Education.
Brewer: Girls basketball coach with announcement expected on Thursday during meeting of the Morgan County Board of Education.
Cold Springs: Basketball coach vacancy with the school currently in the process to replace Cade Willingham, who recently resigned and took a job as head coach at Plainview High School.
St. John Paul: The school in Huntsville is looking to find a basketball coach. The procedure will go through June 23.
St. John Paul: Vacancy to be filled by the Huntsville school in softball. The procedure will go through June 23.
Hartselle: The 6A school in Morgan County is looking to fill vacancy after Faron Key stepped down recently to become basketball coach at Wallace State Community College. The school has a deadline around June 14 according to information GDW has learned.
Sparkman: The 7A school near the Huntsville area is in search of a new basketball coach. The deadline is around June 14, according t o information GDW has been able to find out.
Clements: Vacancies currently being reported by the 3A school in Limestone County in girls basketball and volleyball.
Madison County: The softball position is currently vacant with the 5A school in the process of getting the position filled as soon as possible.
As of Tuesday:
Bob Jones High School reports the hiring of Sherell Hobbs Robertson as the new girls basketball coach. She replaces Jasmine Powers who reportedly resigned in late April.
Powers led Bob Jones to the 7A regional championship game at Wallace State, losing in the finals in overtime to Hoover.
Hobbs Robertson coached five seasons in the Madison area at Mae Jemison High School. Her best team was in 2020/21 as they were 22 & 9, earning a berth to the 5A Final Four.
