GDW Analysis:
BIRMINGHAM: Vinemont Eagles go to Toyota Field in Madison Thursday as the No. 8 team in the 3A state baseball rankings.
The Eagles are playing a doubleheader at the home of the Rocket City Trash Pandas.
Vinemont faces Elkmont at 4:30 p.m. then meets East Limestone around 6:30 p.m.
The Eagles are the only local BB team currently ranked by the state sportswriters.
Vinemont is 16 & 6 entering the trip to Madison. The Eagles lost in the Cullman County semifinal game last Saturday to the Fairview Aggies 3 to 2.
In Class 1A, the Addison Bulldogs are 5th with a record of 12 wins and 8 losses.
Last year's 1A state champion, the Appalachian Eagles out of Blount County, claim No. 2 this week.
Hartselle Tigers have the top spot in 6A. The Tigers are playing in the Hoover Classic, along with their arch rival, the Cullman Bearcats.
Hartselle has been a winner in 13 of 19 games. Cullman is not in the Top 10 with a .500 mark of 8 wins and 8 losses.
Softball:
Good Hope has been looked at, but not enough leverage to be in the Top 10 currently in 4A softball.
Good Hope played earlier this week in Gulf Shores.
The Lady Raiders at 12/7/1, now focus on repeating as champions of the Cullman County tournament.
The tournament will be Monday and Tuesday from the Vinemont Sports Complex.
Good Hope is the top seed, receiving a bye. The Lady Raiders will play Tuesday against the winner of the Fairview-Vinemont game in the semifinal round.
