GDW Analysis:
VINEMONT: Reagan Robinson received a game ball prior to Tuesday's game between the Vinemont Lady Eagles and the West Point Lady Warriors.
The Vinemont junior point guard/shooting guard then went out and led her team to a huge upset, beating West Point 56 to 54.
Robinson had reached 1,000 points in her career the week before. Now playing at home, she was honored and then gave a good performance as her teammates followed her quest to keep West Point from staying undefeated in Cullman County games.
West Point was on the verge of locking down at least the No. 2 seed for the upcoming county tournament. They were 4 & 0 vs. county competition and had defeated Cold Springs by a respectable margin the night before at West Point.
Vinemont was able to lead the game at the end of each period. The Lady Eagles had a 16 to 13 edge following the first, 31 to 29 at halftime and 41 to 38 going into the 4th.
Robinson was able to be productive in the 4th with 7 of her team high 18 points. She scored on a couple of penetrating drives to the bucket and made three of four from the line.
Vinemont led 55 to 51 late in the game as West Point got a three by Jaelyn Faulkner to close it to 55 to 54.
Robinson made one of two from the line with West Point unable to answer with a tieing basket or a possible game winner. That was thanks to good defense from Robinson, plus Morgan Flanigan and Carley Stephens in the closing seconds.
This game stayed close from the beginning. The 2nd period saw West Point knock down four treys and Vinemont scoring from long range three times.
While Robinson was anchoring her team in scoring, West Point was getting it done in the 4th by post player Laklin Shadix.
Shadix would find her way to scoring 4 shots in the period and three of three from the stripe.
Flanigan gave coach Emily Willoughby a 2nd double digit scorer Tuesday evening. Flanigan tallied 10 points with a huge three and a FG being produced in the final period.
Caroline Miller added 8 to the Vinemont total, Vayda Yarbrough had 4, Brooklyn Yarbrough 3, Arleigh Thomason 3 and Addison Holcomb 5.
The Lady Eagles are now 6 & 2 in winning their first county game of the season in three decisions.
Jaelyn Faulkner followed the 16 point outing by Shadix with 11, Kealie Harbison scored 9, Patton Fell 8, Caitlee Simmons 7 and Camryn Faulkner 3.
West Point dropped to 8 & 2 and stands in county games with 4 wins out of 5 tries.
