GDW Analysis:
WEST POINT: After a slow start, the West Point offense came alive Friday evening in its jamboree with Hanceville.
By halftime, the Warriors had scored on four consecutive possessions, netted 284 yards of offense and led 27 to 0.
The game would end that way for the varsity. West Point's last series in the third was with junior varsity as they drove from the 10 to near midfield when time ran out.
For Kevin McCravy's debut with West Point, the Warriors used big plays and good passing from QB Hunter Hensley.
Hensley went four of six in the opening period for 102 yards and a 60 yard TD to sophomore WR Bryant Moon.
Two more long scoring plays came from Hensley's arm in the 2nd.
A 56 yard score to Brayden Monfort followed by a 69 yard TD on a slant to Moon.
Hensley completed only two of six in the 2nd with four incompletions due to dropped balls and one overthrown pass to Moon near the Hanceville end zone.
Moon set high marks with four catches for 159 yards and two TDs.
At the half, West Point had 227 yards through the air and 57 by the ground for 284.
The Warriors ended the 3rd quarter with 96 yards rushing. That gave them 380 yards offense and 14 first downs.
West Point did have two fumbles. The first stopped a drive when Hanceville's Peyton Twilley recovered at the Bulldogs' 38 in the first stanza.
A high snap over Hensley's head led to West Point giving the Bulldogs possession at the West Point 25 at 5:05 of the 3rd.
Hanceville gained a first down but failed to score when a pass on 4th and goal from the 10 was incomplete in the end zone.
The Bulldogs' offense for new coach Levi Estes struggled.
Hanceville was tackled behind the line six times in the first and held to minus 2 yards.
Hanceville threw for 38 yards in the half on four completions by Hunter Black. They would be brought down in losses eight times and accounted for minus four rushing by halftime.
A 16 yard run by Black on 4th and 10 from the West Point 25 moved the Bulldogs closer to a score. They could not deliver after Black's best run and lost possession on 4th and goal at the 10.
Senior RB Dawson Smith gained 86 yards on seven carries for West Point. He had a good third period with three rushes netting 40 yards.
West Point suffered two turnovers on fumbles and was penalized six times for 50 yards.
Hanceville did not turn the ball over. The Bulldogs got flagged three times for 25 yards, one on a pass interference call in the 2nd quarter that led to a West Point score.
For the season opener, West Point will host the Haleyville Lions next Friday while Hanceville gets the Cold Springs Eagles to visit Ray Talley Stadium.
Both games will kick off on August 23 at 7:00 p.m.
