Deadline to fill two vacancies has now passed for the AHSAA:

GDW Analysis:
MONTGOMERY: Alabama High School Athletic Association is moving onward in the quest to fill important vacancies on its administrative staff.
The deadline for accepting applications for the assistant director and director of the coaches/athletic directors ended Friday.
Now comes the process for the AHSAA to analyze in trying to get new personnel in as soon as possible.
The AHSAA is now led by Heath Harmon as Executive Director. Harmon was chosen by the Central Board of Control to replace the retiring Alvin Briggs.
The first task for Harmon was to get himself comfortable with the association during the All Star Sports Week in Montgomery July 15/20.
Currently vacant is the position for directing the coaches/athletic directors. Brandon Dean is no longer handling this duty as he reportedly left and is working with the Montgomery parks and recreation association.
The AHSAA has not said publicly on a timetable when these two positions will be filled.
A position for associate executive director is on AHSAA's docket presently.
The deadline for applications is set for August 23.
Reclassification is the theme for AHSAA athletics with fall sports such as football, volleyball, cross country, flag football and swimming/diving to begin the weekend of August 22.
Flag football is about to start its 4th year of competition with the number of teams up to 113 after having 89 participate last year.
The AHSAA recently discussed the issue of football stadiums at University of Alabama and Auburn University no longer available for the Super 7 championships due to possible involvement in hosting a college football playoff game.
Protective Stadium in Birmingham will be the site where the football championships will be played in early December.
A change is to occur in the basketball regional playoffs.
Alabama State University returns to being a host as they will have the Central Regional on campus after it has been the past two years from Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham.
In a Central Board of Control meeting July 24, the AHSAA reported $2.25 million was returned to the sanctioned schools following the 2023/24 athletic year.
The board also set the date of September 17 to conduct a central board orientation. That will be held inside the conference room of the AHSAA.

AHSAA is seeing a steady flow for athletics from its fall sports to the winter and spring and look to continue their role in leadership with the change of Harmon now the Executive Director.
