MONTGOMERY: After next week, the new season in the Alabama High School Athletic Association will begin with practice for fall sports.
The association has already brought in Heath Harmon, former principal at Oxford High School, to replace Alvin Briggs who is retiring as executive director.
Another change in the association will be handled. The assistant director and director of the coaches and athletic directors statewide is vacant after Brandon Dean moved out and accepted a position with the Montgomery Parks and Recreation department.
AHSAA is reporting applications are currently being accepted for both positions.
Applications will be taken by the AHSAA until August 9.
Summary of Assistant Director Assist the AHSAA Executive Director in the day-to-day operations of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA), which include regulating and coordinating interscholastic athletic competition in an equitable manner while promoting the value of interscholastic athletics as an integral part of a student’s education-based athletic experience by representing all member schools. Provide professional development opportunities to AHSAA member schools. Perform any duties assigned by the AHSAA Executive Director.

Essential Functions of AHSADCA Director To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily: • Communicate with Administrators, Coaches, Sponsors, Businesses, and Media across the state • Coordinate and assist sports, as assigned by Executive Director • Coordinate All Star Games and Events, Principals and Athletic Directors Conference, and Summer Conference • Any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
