GDW Analysis:
Cullman County Board of Education conducted its final meeting prior to schools being dismissed on Wednesday.
GDW was in attendance to report on stories related to athletics in the CCBOE.
Dr. Shane Barnette began recognition of athletes with Ivey Maddox of Good Hope. Maddox was named the ASWA Class 4A player of the year. Maddox took part in graduation Saturday and now is setting her sights on a collegiate basketball career at the University of Alabama Huntsville.
Elks Hoop Shoot winners were Allison Rice of Cold Springs (8-9 division), Trey Thompson of West Point (10-11 division), Kallaway McKinnon of Cold Springs (12-13 division), Tyce Thompson of West Point (12-13 division).
The West Point girls golf team was honored for closing out a very good 2024 season, finishing 2nd in the AHSAA 5A state tournament last week in Muscle Shoals.
The Lady Warriors won the Cullman County championship, Class 5A sub state before they performed to a high level May 13-14 at the Robert Trent Jones Trail in the Florence area.
Being recognized were Hailee Wheeler, the only senior on the squad, plus Brooklyn Sutter, Charli Aris and Allie Freeman.

GDW was informed by a source before the meeting that Holly Pond High School is now in search of a football coach.
Coleman Mason reportedly has stepped down and accepted an offer to be on the coaching staff next season at Oneonta High School.
Holly Pond board representative Heath Allbright confirmed it when asked by GDW.
The process to replace Mason is currently under way, Allbright said.
The CCBOE approved a request from West Point High School to pay Megan Cagle $500 for volleyball tryouts and spring clinic. The cost will be paid through local school funds.
The next meeting by the CCBOE will be on June 13 at 3:30 p.m. inside the board's conference room.
