BIRMINGHAM: Last week the Brilliant Lady Tigers became a Cinderella story with their superb run to win the AHSAA Northwest Regional.
Monday morning it continued from Legacy Arena.
Brilliant went toe to toe with a physical McIntosh squad, claiming a 54 to 51 thriller in OT.
The Lady Tigers overcame early foul trouble by center Hadley Sanderson.
Sanderson was able to avoid fouling out, but had to play more loose when trying to defend McIntosh's 6'2" center Chauncey Dixon.
Dixon would have a great Final Four, scoring 28.
But Brilliant went to a team motto and it paid off from the Lady Tigers.
Sanderson did collect 17 points with Macy Moore adding 14 and PG Brooke O'Mary getting 11.
Moore, the hero and MVP from the NW Regional last week at Wallace, was 4 of 6 in threes.
Sanderson showed toughness in hitting 6 of 6 from the line. O'Mary made 4 of 6 at the stripe, had 6 steals and drew a player control foul on Marley Dixon late in the game that was an impact to her squad.
"McIntosh is a great team," coach Ryan Sanderson said afterwards. "Our team played their tails off. We prepped for them two days after we won the regional. Our girls came to play."
Brilliant is now in its first ever state championship game. The Lady Tigers will play the winner of RC Hatch/Spring Garden Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
