BIRMINGHAM: Hubbertville Lions present a young basketball team with four sophomores in the starting lineup.
The youth served to be an issue for the NW Regional in the 1A semifinal Monday with the Brantley Bulldogs from Legacy Arena at the BJCC.
Brantley went on a 12 to 0 run right before halftime. That gave the Bulldogs a 41 to 29 lead, enroute to stopping the Lions' 6 game winning streak in a final of 78 to 67.
The Lions had 14 turnovers with several leading to Brantley scoring opportunities.
Brantley managed 21 points from the Hubbertville miscues.
Brantley kept the lead at a breathing pace with the Lions only able to knock it down to 9 in the 4th period.
Jayden Parks had a game high 34 for the Bulldogs.
Four Lions earned double figures with Trace Cowan III and Blaize Whitfield scoring 15, 14 by Cole Brand and 12 from regional MVP Kane Rushing.
Brantley comes back to play in the championship game Thursday at 5:45 p.m.
