GDW Analysis:
COLD SPRINGS: Gameday Weekly has learned through media reports, Cold Springs High School has hired Adam McKinnon to be the next basketball coach.
McKinnon has had a long tenure with the 2A school in Southwest Cullman County, from being an assistant with basketball when the Eagles were coached by Tim Willoughby.
He also coached the golf program for a long time and is currently listed as the school's athletic director.
McKinnon takes over the Eagles after Cade Willingham recently stepped down and accepted the head position at Plainview High School in the Rainsville community of Dekalb County.
Sources had told GDW, McKinnon was running the team during a series of playdays in the month of June.
McKinnon was with Willoughby when the Eagles enjoyed a very solid 2021/22 season, going 21 & 9 and winning the 2A, Area 13 championship, getting to host a sub regional playoff game at Jesse George Gymnasium.
The Eagles claimed six area titles with Willougby.
Reclassification has taken place by the AHSAA with Cold Springs to compete in Area 11 of 2A with Falkville and Winston County.
The previous two years the Eagles were matched with schools in Blount County for area play and were designated to the Central Regional.
Cold Springs is most likely to be back to the Northwest Regional for the next two years.
The Eagles will be inside their new gymnasium for their 2nd year,
They made the move to the facility last year after their long tenure at Jesse George Gymnasium, a tough venue for opponents from Cullman County and other locations.
McKinnon is the only change for local varsity basketball.
All other county schools remain the same with Thomas Ganus at Fairview, Drew Adams at Good Hope, Stephen Chandler at Hanceville, Tim Willoughby at Holly Pond, Preston Boyd at Vinemont and Mason Voce at West Point.
