GOOD HOPE: Tanner Malin well remembers his time on the football field for the Good Hope Raiders.
The all state athlete during his junior and senior year was an impact performer with the Raiders winning 19 of 25 games and getting into the 2nd round and quarterfinals of the AHSAA 4A playoffs.
Malin also sees what he can do for his school and the community.
The 2nd annual Tanner Malin youth football skills camp wrapped up Friday evening from James Shabel Stadium.
This year's camp for youngsters from K through the 8th grade turned out with a good number of 60 participants.
The camp went through the late afternoon and early evening Thursday and Friday.
Malin was assisted by the Good Hope coaching staff plus collegiate athletes Zeke White, Tre Bright and Kaleb Heatherly.
The camp was 2 and a half hours both days with a series of fundamentals that Gameday Weekly caught a glimpse of while on assignment Thursday,
Malin graduated from Good Hope in 2022. In his final three years on the gridiron, the Raiders tallied an 8 wins in 2019, 10 & 2 record in 2020 and went 9 & 4 in 2021.
The quarterback for coach Allen Scott got to experience six games in the postseason, one as a sophomore, two in his junior year and three when he was a senior.
Good Hope would go 3 & 3 for the total 3 year playoff stint as Malin displayed his skills from a key position on the field.
The Alabama Sportswriters Association (ASWA) selected Malin as 1st team athlete in the 4A class for three years.
Malin also got invited and played in the AHSAA all star game in December of 2021 from the University of South Alabama in Mobile.
Malin was in the mix of goodness the Raiders had become in the sport after winning just seven games between 2015 to 2017. This was before Malin was on the varsity roster.
From his sophomore to senior season, Malin and the Raiders were winning 26 of 30 regular season games. The Raiders earned 17 wins from Shabel Stadium against three losses.
His senior season was the 2nd time in a four year span Good Hope had earned a berth into the quarterfinal round of 4A play.
In total, the football season for Malin from a freshman to senior came to a conclusion well into the month of November. His last game was a hard fought but an unfortunate 35 to 28 loss at home vs. Madison Academy six days prior to Thanksgiving in 2021.
Now in 2024, two years from leaving the school as a student athlete, Malin is making a mark on teaching youngsters the game in a variety of fundamental drills.
It is his way to show the community of what it means to him as being a teacher of the game following a good stint of playing it for the 3rd largest school in the Cullman County system.
