Cullman County football has success in Week 2 of 2024 season:

Four wins by county teams against non county competition:

GDW Analysis:
Winning was wonderful for local football teams in the 2nd week of the 2024 AHSAA regular season.
In four games against schools from outside Cullman County, the locals claimed victory with three doing it as a road squad.
On Thursday, the Cold Springs Eagles got the schedule going by a 24 to 14 victory at Thomas Hudson Field vs. the Curry Yellow Jackets.
Two teams took to the road Friday evening and certainly enjoyed the bus trip back to their respective campus.
The Fairview Aggies provided history in a 41 to 17 win at Springville.
It was career victory No. 118 for coach George Redding in his 18th year with his alma mater.
Redding is 2nd in all time wins as a county, moving a game ahead of Hanceville legend Ray Talley who has 117 between 1976 to 1990.
Mark Smothers who coached Vinemont to 83 victories and 46 with Hanceville, leads the list at 129.
Trailing Smothers, Redding and Talley is Dafford Smith with 89 (65 with Fairview and 24 with West Point), Billy Joe Pugh of Good Hope 86 and Alan Scott of Vinemont/Good Hope with 72.
Fairview went to work with a 13 to 7 lead after the first at Springville Friday and held on to a comfortable 34 to 10 advantage when the game reached intermission.
The Aggies scored once in the 3rd quarter in having a good outing to open the 2024 season a week after they stunned No. 1 rank Pisgah 21 to 6 in a jamboree from Dafford Smith Stadium.
Holly Pond Broncos roll over Hanceville Bulldogs:
HOLLY POND: Holly Pond played a personality of a "Mustang" Friday evening in stampeding over Hanceville 74 to 35 to give Will McDaniel his first victory in his 2nd game coaching the Broncos.
With a 34 to 14 advantage at the half, the Broncos got into a scoring spree, putting 3 TDs on their side of a new scoreboard in the 3rd to lead 58 to 14 and added two in the final stanza for the most points scored by a local squad two weeks into the new schedule.
Cullman Bearcats get record in win vs. Mortimer Jordan:
A frustrating opener eight days ago in Madison against Bob Jones is no longer in the minds of the Cullman Bearcats.
The Bearcats faced Mortimer Jordan in the opener Friday from Mark Britton Field/Oliver Woodard Stadium.
Cullman got revenge on a close loss to the Blue Devils last year in Jefferson County by whipping them 35 to 14.
Danny Stiff's Bearcats scored a TD in the 3rd to extend their advantage to 21 to 7.
Two visits to the Mortimer Jordan end zone in the 4th gave them 35 points for the home opener. MJ scored before time ran out to make it a final margin of 21 points at 35 to 14.
Cullman is 14/5/1 all time against Mortimer Jordan. The Bearcats avoided an 0 & 2 start that has not happened to this team since 2016 and 2017.
Vinemont Eagles move to 2 & 0 in winning at Southeastern:
REMLAP: Vinemont Eagles officially played the Southeastern Mustangs for the first time Friday down in Blount County.
The Eagles erased an early 8 to 0 deficit in scoring a TD in the 2nd and twice during the 3rd for a 22 to 8 triumph.
This is the first time Vinemont has begun a season 2 & 0 under current coach Stephen Robinson. This was the first of three consecutive road games for the Eagles. Vinemont has won its last five regular season games, dating back to the final three of 2023 vs. Danville, Asbury and Holly Pond.
