GDW Analysis:
Wednesday is the last day for students in the Cullman County school system.
It is officially the last day for Johnny Whaley in directing Fairview High School.
Whaley has stepped down from his position at Fairview. He is moving on to the staff of the Alabama State Department of Education.
On Monday at a regular meeting of the CCBOE, Brad Stapler was announced as the successor of Whaley.
Stapler will begin his position on July 1.
Stapler is currently assistant principal and career tech director at Arab High School.
Stapler is returning home. Stapler graduated from Fairview in 1996.
"I understand the unique spirit that defines the institution," Stapler said.
"Being an alumnus of Fairview and still involved in the community, Dr. Stapler will bring his passion to lead Fairview and continue their rich tradition of excellence," Superintendent Shane Barnette was quoted during the meeting.
Stapler will look forward to his involvement with athletics. One sport that stands on its own is football.
Fairview has produced 117 victories with George Redding in command since 2007. The Aggies have enjoyed 47 victories in 60 games since 2019 and five straight appearances to the AHSAA 5A playoffs.
The first game for the Aggies with Stapler as principal will be on August 30 at Springville.
The home opener from Dafford Smith Stadium will come on September 6 vs. county rival West Point.
