GDW Analysis:
PRICEVILLE: Priceville High School has hired Shane Childress to take over the girls basketball program, after Terri Nelson retired following the 2023/24 season.
His hiring was approved by the Morgan County board of education Tuesday.
Childress spent the past two years building a winner at Clements High School in Limestone County.
Clements was 25 & 6 and 24 & 10 in the two seasons with Childress leading the squad. That's 49 wins in 65 games, a winning percentage of .753.
Clements won the AHSAA 3A Northwest Regional championship in back to back seasons, ending the run of Lauderdale County as being superior in this region.
Clements lost in the 2023 state championship game in Birmingham and in February, was eliminated by Trinity in the semifinal round.
It is probable Childress will have his daughters with him when he starts his first year at Priceville in November.
Leah has been his point guard in the great success for Clements. She will be in her senior season.
Her sister Josie is a shooting guard and will be in her junior year.
They come to Priceville that was 19 & 12 in Nelson's final season, finishing runner up in 4A Northwest regional play to its rival, the Good Hope Lady Raiders.
Four seniors graduated for the Lady Priceville with key contributors being PG Gracin Prater and F Carly Jo Nelson.
Six-foot, one-inch center Abby Langlois is the key player to return for Priceville. Langlois is difficult to defend in the post and plays very aggressive on the defensive side and is a stout rebounder.
Beside the coaching change, Priceville is looking at new life in the AHSAA.
In the recent re-classification, Priceville is now in Class 5A for the first time. The Lady Bulldogs will be in an area with county foe Brewer, plus Ardmore and East Limestone.
Now with the hiring of Childress at Priceville, the current schools with vacancy in the sport of girls basketball around the GDW coverage include the following.
Athens, Susan Moore have not replaced Capree Tucker and Natasha Smallwood. Tucker recently took the position at Guntersville while Smallwood went into Marshall County too, becoming the new leader at Albertville.
