GDW Analysis:
MONTGOMERY: Improvement in sportsmanship has been noticed by the Alabama High School Athletic Association.
The AHSAA recognized 107 schools statewide for composing a fine year in 2023/24 without being hit with a fine or an ejection.
Five are from the Gameday Weekly coverage area. Four represent the Cullman County school system and the other is just two years into an association with the AHSAA.
Cullman Christian School is one of 27 from the smallest class to be honored. CCS is now fully eligible for championship play in the AHSAA after serving two years of regular season competition.
CCS is involved in basketball, volleyball and cross country.
Others that endured the past season in sportsmanship perfection were the following.
Class 2A: Cold Springs
Class 3A: Vinemont
Class 4A: Good Hope
Class 5A: Fairview
The AHSAA is pleased that the number of sportsmanship programs rose respectfully in 2023/24 than where they were the year prior.
Only 80 schools across Alabama dealt with good play in all sports, not having anything to be penalized for.
The 27 by the 1A class was the most the AHSAA reports.
The rest were the following, Class 2A with 23, Class 3A with 16, Class 4A with 18, Class 5A with 12.
The issue concerning sportsmanship for the AHSAA is with the largest schools. Only Class 6A accounted for 6 and the largest, the 7A, totaled just 4.
Schools near the GDW coverage area that earned recognition were Addison in 1A, Danville in 3A, JB Pennington in 3A, Douglas in 5A, Hayden in 5A.
