GDW Analysis:
So much has been great in the sports media career of yours truly for now 45 years into existence.
Now he can add to this as deep in his heart, he is looking at those who would love to make sports media their career.
Eleven year old Gweneviere Marks has taken interest in this role as she has a program on social media called Lightning Talks with G Bolt.
According to information, this is the 2nd season of this process by the 5th grade student from West Point School.
How this came together with yours truly was last week when a text from her father, James Marks in asking could she interview the long time reporter, writer and broadcaster who has Hall of Fame credentials through Cullman County and Wallace State Community College.
"I had been told about her and saw her walk recently when she interviewed former Cullman Bearcat and UAH basketball player Seth Swalve.
"She has a great knack for the game of basketball and she is indeed very astute at her age in handling the situation of asking questions to people such as myself and to do it in quality as far as preparation and execution."
The interview was held in the lobby of the Cullman Basketball Complex Monday afternoon. It was kind of loud for at the time, the CBC was active with high school volleyball between St. Bernard and Cullman Christian School, a JV match between the two and the start of the Cullman County Youth VB Tournament, plus a training session from CBC organizer Branch Whitlock.
"G Bolt as she is known was very calm and confident as we have a wonderful time doing this. I appreciate her father and others letting her know about my role in the Cullman sports media and I was very much flattered. I had tears in my eyes thinking of this before I got to the CBC Monday, for being grateful and to see a young person like G Bolt present herself in a position for a very good future in the sports media.
Cullman Christian School principal Heith Yearwood told Gameday Weekly a little more about Marks, who had played hoops for him so time ago when Yearwood coach West Point.
Mr. Marks informed GDW that G Bolt has been invited to participate in the Cullman County winter sports media day, when it is likely to be held in the upcoming weeks at the CCBOE conference room before the new basketball season gets going in November.
"For how she displayed herself and with most of the questions related to basketball, I compared G Bolt to two of the most famous women I have met in their role as announcers in college basketball and the WNBA."
Flash met ESPN's Doris Burke and Debbie Antonelli back in 2014 when he was at the NCAA Women's Final Four in Nashville.
Those two have set a great standard for women that can be consistent and sometimes better than their male counterparts.
Burke is now an analyst for ESPN and ABC's main coverage of the NBA.
Antonelli divides her time between TV and radio with the NCAA women. She is great at the lead analyst for Westwood One Radio in their coverage of the Final Four for a long time.
"I encourage people like G Bolt at her age and those who are in middle school and high school to look at this profession, see the value of it and especially if each has the love for the game, whether it's basketball or other sports that have gained so much appeal through time.
"I am in respectable health, but I need to make sure I handle things well and continue this role I have with WKUL FM and Gameday Weekly for a long time. I want to see the younger part of our society let me know they wish to be in the sports media, for it can be worthwhile in understanding it and enjoying it.
"I got a good opportunity to see the promise of it in the future on Monday. I wish for more of that to be seen by yours truly from this point on."
