GDW Analysis:
Regular season play for local football in September ends Friday.
It's the 6th week of the AHSAA regular season with this week non regional play for the participants.
Only five schools are active with a game for September 27.
The Fairview Aggies, Hanceville Bulldogs and Holly Pond Broncos have a bye week.
Three teams that have shown plenty of positive for the first half of the schedule, want to close out September with a victory and use it for momentum as each will embrace challenges in their respective region when October arrives.
Vinemont Eagles have never seen the moment of 5 wins in their first 6 games with current coach Stephen Robinson.
The Eagles finish the September schedule Friday by going to Walnut Grove in Etowah County to play the West End Patriots.
Vinemont has performed well away from Mark Smothers Stadium with 2 victories in 3 tries. The Eagles have won at Southeastern and Midfield with the lone loss coming September 6 in a 4 OT game at Phil Campbell.
Vinemont, 4 & 1, is not the only team to be on the road this week.
The Cullman Bearcats invade Morgan County in playing the Brewer Patriots for the first time since 2017.
Cullman has been superior against Brewer, winning 24 of 25 decisions.
This is the 3rd straight game on the road for Danny Stiff's Bearcats, looking at 2 wins through 5 games.
Brewer has 1 win out of 4 for coach Matt Plunkett. Plunkett coached Cullman for one season, 2018. The Bearcats won just three times before Plunkett journeyed to Locust Fork two seasons and has locked in with Brewer since 2021.
West Point Warriors resume their first season with Kevin McCravy after they were idle last Friday.
The Warriors see a long time foe on the road in playing at the Hayden Wildcats.
West Point is 0 & 4 and was shut out for the first time in its last game on September 14 by Lawrence County.
Hayden began 2024 play with a victory over Brewer and now has four consecutive losses.
Cold Springs Eagles have done well with a 3 & 0 record on the road and are 0 & 2 at Cranford Stricklin Stadium. The Eagles will try to enter the win column as a home team with a strong opponent visiting Friday evening.
The Lynn Bears make the drive up from the Southwest part of Winston County. Lynn has a 4 & 1 record, three consecutive victories and back to back shutouts against Pickens County and Sumiton Christian.
Undefeated Good Hope sees a visit from long time rival Addison that will be the WKUL FM Game of the Week.
This is homecoming for the Raiders, a 4 & 0 squad and fresh off a 21 to 0 shutout of Cordova in 4A, Region 5 play.
The Raiders are at home for the first time since September 6 when they were able to squeeze by Fultondale 7 to 6.
Addison had a 3 game winning streak get stopped on its home field last week to undefeated Hackleburg 30 to 14.
This is the first of three straight games for Addison away from the friendly confines of A.G. Hicks Stadium.
Good Hope enters this week as the best defensive squad in county football, allowing just 16 points through 4 games and not being scored upon in the last 7 quarters.
For the record, Fairview is 4 & 0 going into a bye with Holly Pond 2 & 3 and Hanceville 1 & 4.
County football has enjoyed a good 5 weeks with Fairview, Good Hope, Vinemont and Cold Springs producing 15 wins so far out of 18 decisions. The Aggies, Raiders and Vinemont Eagles have been solid on the road with a combined record of 8 & 1.
